Bacterial exopolysaccharides (EPS) are secondary metabolites of microorganisms which play important roles in adhesion, protection, biofilm formation, and as a source of nutrition. Compared with polysaccharides obtained from animal and plant species, bacterial polysaccharides have significant advantages in terms of production cost and large-scale production due to their abundant metabolic pathways and efficient polysaccharide production capacity. Most extracellular polysaccharides are water-soluble, and some are insoluble, such as bacterial cellulose.

Mid-infrared (MIR) Kerr microcombs are of significant interest for portable dual-comb spectroscopy and precision molecular sensing due to strong molecular vibrational absorption in the MIR band. However, achieving a compact, octave-spanning MIR Kerr microcomb remains a challenge due to the lack of suitable MIR photonic materials for the core and cladding of integrated devices and appropriate MIR continuous-wave (CW) pump lasers. Here, we propose a novel slot concentric dual-ring (SCDR) microresonator based on an integrated chalcogenide glass chip, which offers excellent transmission performance and flexible dispersion engineering in the MIR band.

Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), a widely used plasticizer, could cause male reproductive toxicity by disrupting spermatogenesis. Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a small non-coding RNAs specifically highly expressed in the germline and interact with PIWI proteins to regulate spermatogenesis. Accumulating studies have confirmed that environmental poisons could induce male reproductive injury via altering piRNA expression.

The Genetic Sex Determination method yielded 40 males and 40 females. Males grew longer and heavier than females, and the results showed significant variation between the sexes in terms of weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), and final body length and weight.

Stress can lead to gut dysbiosis in brain-gut axis disordered diseases as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), yet the mechanisms how stress transfer from the brain to the gut and disrupt gut microbiota remain elusive. Here we describe a stress-responsive brain-to-gut axis which impairs colonocytes' mitochondria to trigger gut dysbiosis. Patients with IBS exhibit significantly increased facultative anaerobes and decreased obligate anaerobes, related to increased serum corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) level and defected colonocytes' mitochondria ultrastructure.

Size-selected Au, Au, Au, and Au clusters were generated using a gas-phase condensation cluster beam source equipped with a lateral time-of-flight mass selector. Comprehensive heating characterization was conducted, revealing the structural evolution and size-dependent melting point depression of Au clusters at atomic resolution aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (AC-STEM).

Employing the gas-phase condensation cluster source with a lateral time-of-flight (TOF) mass-selector, size-selected gold (Au), and tantalum (Ta) NCs were prepared. This study explores the coalescence behavior of size-selected Au and Ta NCs under electron beam irradiation, aiming to investigate the related mechanism governing the welding process.

However, how to specifically deliver drugs to the bone marrow remains elusive. Here, we develop biomimetic vesicles by infusing hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell (HSPC) membrane with liposomes (HSPC liposomes), which migrate to the bone marrow of leukemic mice via hyaluronic acid-CD44 axis.

The primary objective of this study was to discover the molecular attributes and regulatory roles of ELOVL6 in male Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. The full-length cDNA of elovl6 was cloned from male Nile tilapia, and was determined to be 2255-bp long, including a 5'-untranslated region of 193 bp, a 3'-untranslated region of 1252 bp, and an open reading frame of 810 bp encoding 269 amino acids.

Hydrogen and methane breath test has been widely applied as a non-invasive method for SIBO. However, the positive breath test representative of bacterial overgrowth could also be detected in asymptomatic individuals.

Conventional tillage (CT) is the primary tillage practice in rain-fed areas to conserve soil moisture. Despite previous research on the effect of tillage methods on different cropping systems, a comparison of tillage methods on soil water storage, crop yield and crop water use in wheat (Triticum aestivum ) and maize (Zea mays ) under different soil textures, precipitation and temperature patterns is needed.

Arsenic exposure resulted in elevated levels of oxidative stress, decreased antioxidant capacity and increased apoptosis in rat hippocampal brain tissue and mitochondria. Immunohistochemical results showed that arsenic exposure also significantly decreased the expression of mitochondrial biosynthesis-related factors PGC-1α and TFAM.

However, in most TM atoms@TMDs nanostructures, it is challenging for the magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) to exceed 30 meV when affected by the crystal field. Hence, the stronger magnetic anisotropy of TMDs has yet to be developed.

Halide solid electrolytes, known for their high ionic conductivity at room temperature and good oxidative stability, face notable challenges in all-solid-state Li-ion batteries (ASSBs), especially with unstable cathode/solid electrolyte (SE) interface and increasing interfacial resistance during cycling. In this work, we have developed an Al-doped, cation-disordered epitaxial nanolayer on the LiCoO surface by reacting it with an artificially constructed AlPO nanoshell; this lithium-deficient layer featuring a rock-salt-like phase effectively suppresses oxidative decomposition of LiInCl electrolyte and stabilizes the cathode/SE interface at 4.5 V.
