We theoretically study how the intensity of second harmonic generation (SHG) for a sheet of two-dimensional (2D) material is controlled by an underlying layered structure. By utilizing the transfer matrix method with the inclusion of a nonlinear sheet current to describe the response of the 2D material, an explicit expression for the intensity of upward propagating second harmonic (SH) light is obtained, and the effects of the layered structure can be identified by a structure factor β, defined as the ratio of SH intensity from such a structure to that from a freely suspended 2D material. Our results show that the influence of a layered structure on the SHG intensity arises from interference effects of both the fundamental light and the SH light; the value of the structure factor is 0 ≤ β ≤ 64.

Exposure during the production and application of products containing TiO can be harmful, and therefore these products must be labeled as "may cause cancer." The paint industry is a major user of TiO pigment.

Here, we find that anionic nanoplastic contaminants potently precipitate the formation and propagation of α-synuclein protein fibrils through a high-affinity interaction with the amphipathic and non-amyloid component (NAC) domains in α-synuclein. Nanoplastics can internalize in neurons through clathrin-dependent endocytosis, causing a mild lysosomal impairment that slows the degradation of aggregated α-synuclein.

Such tunability arises from two interferences: one is between the incident fundamental light and its reflected light, and the other is between the upward second harmonic (SH) light and the reflected downward SH light. When both interferences are constructive, the SHG is maximally enhanced; it becomes attenuated if either of them is destructive.

Physical and chemical data are presented examining potential risks associated with four types of currently available sex toys: anal toy, beads, dual vibrator, and external vibrator. A standardized abrasion machine made real-time breakdown of products into microplastics and nanoplastics.

Furthermore, qubit sources should be programmable and have high brightness to be useful for quantum algorithms and grant resilience to losses. However, widespread encoding schemes only combine at most two of these properties.

This process can occur spontaneously or it can be stimulated by seeding fields. Here we show that stimulated TOPDC (StTOPDC) can be exploited for the generation of quantum correlated photon pairs.

Most MP and nanoplastic pollution comes from the fragmentation of plastics through mechanical stress, chemical reactions and biological degradation that occurs during use and after disposal. Models predicting the generation and behavior of MP in the environment are developing, however there is lack of data to predict the rates of MP generation as a function of the abrasive forces.

Parasitic noise, associated with single-pump spontaneous four-wave mixing, is essentially eliminated by employing a novel system design involving two resonators that are linearly uncoupled but nonlinearly coupled. This opens the way to a new class of integrated devices exploiting the unique properties of identical photon pairs in the same optical mode.

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are known for their unique properties and have many applications in polymers. We show that it is possible to generate photon pairs that are hyper-entangled in energy and path. We study the state robustness against positional disorder of the waveguides, in terms of Schmidt number (SN), fidelity, and density matrix.

In addition to confirmation of basic nomenclature, several additional concepts were discussed, which are used in scientific amyloid literature. Among such concepts are cytotoxic oligomers, protofibrils, primary and secondary nucleation, seeding and cross-seeding, amyloid signature proteins, and amyloid plaques.

We investigate the spectral correlations of the generated photons as a function of the spectral width of the pump, and demonstrate that the SPDC generation rate can scale with the fifth power of the structure length in the limit of a quasi-continuous-wave pump. We show that such an unusual scaling can be simply connected with the scaling of second-harmonic generation in the same structure, illustrating the general link between spontaneous and stimulated parametric nonlinear processes.

In our structure, the resonance combs of each resonator can be tuned independently, with the energy transfer from one resonator to the other occurring in the presence of a nonlinear interaction. This method allows flexible and efficient on-chip control of the nonlinear interaction, and is readily applicable to other third-order nonlinear phenomena.

We demonstrate that this leads to a Rabi-like splitting, for which we provide a theoretical description in agreement with our experimental results. This yields new insight into the dynamics of nonlinear optical interactions in microresonators and access to novel phenomena.

There, complicated electric and magnetic fields varying over subwavelength scales are generally present, which results in photonic phenomena such as extraordinary optical momentum, superchiral fields, and a complex spatial evolution of optical singularities. An understanding of such phenomena requires nanoscale measurements of the complete optical field vector.

Yet we observe a strong, doping-induced SHG from graphene, with its highest strength comparable to the electric-dipole-allowed SHG in noncentrosymmetric 2D materials. This novel SHG has the nature of an electric-quadrupole response, arising from the effective breaking of inversion symmetry by optical dressing with an in-plane photon wave vector.
