Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates voice problems in teachers, often caused by strain, improper voice use, and poor responses to stress, aiming to link these issues to their coping styles.
  • It involved 174 female teachers undergoing a 24-day voice rehabilitation, using the Voice Handicap Index (VHI) for voice assessment and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) for evaluating coping mechanisms.
  • Results indicate that emotion-focused coping is connected to subjective voice issues, suggesting that stress management techniques should be included in voice rehabilitation to help mitigate voice disorders in teachers.

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis is medical condition strictly connected with HPV infection of the epithelium of the upper respiratory track. The main treatment of lesions located in larynx or lower pharynx includes microsurgical excision by using CO2 laser. A thorough preoperative assessment of patients is extremely important, which should not only be based on traditional laryngological examination, but also on endoscopy of the larynx and the use of the NBI (narrow band imaging) technique to assess the vascularization of lesions.

  • Results suggest that tinnitus could signal the beginning of high-frequency hearing loss, indicating that high-frequency audiometry should be routinely used in tinnitus assessments.

(1) Background: Laryngeal electromyography (LEMG) plays a key role in classifying the severity of nerve damage and determining the prognosis of the nerve recovery. LEMG is primarily a qualitative study, without a standardized approach to interpretation. The development of qualitative and quantitative analysis would situate LEMG in the gold standard of modern neurolaryngologic diagnostics.

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death in the world. For almost 60 years, vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) were the mainstay of anticoagulation therapy, but in recent years direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have become the anticoagulant treatment of choice. DOACs were initially considered drugs with no significant food interactions; however, clinical observations from daily practice have proved otherwise as interactions with food ingredients have been reported.

Introduction: Although it is recommended to perform cochlear implantation in both ears at the same time for management of profound hearing loss in children, many centers prefer to perform sequential implantation. There are many reasons as to why a simultaneous bilateral implantation is not commonly accepted and performed. The major risk is the possibility of bilateral vestibular organ impairment.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the importance of selected prognostic factors on outcomes of tympanoplasty in children.

Materials And Methods: 241 children classified into three age groups (3-7, 8-12 and 13-18), had undergone tympanoplasty between 2001 and 2007 and were subsequently observed for at least 2 years. Prognostic factors were assessed with regard to their impact on the functional and anatomical outcome of the tympanoplasty defined, respectively, as postoperative air-bone gap and state of the middle ear.

Introduction: Acute mastoiditis remains the most common complication of acute otitis media. It may rarely appear also in cochlear implant patients. However, the treatment recommendations for this disease are not precisely defined or employed, and in the current literature the differences regarding both the diagnosis and management are relatively substantial.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated recurrent acute mastoiditis in children through a review of 73 patient charts from 2001 to 2016, focusing on bacterial causes, treatment methods, and complications.
  • Out of the children studied, 8% experienced recurrent cases, with a strong association found between previous ear infections and recurrent mastoiditis.
  • The findings suggest that more aggressive surgical techniques during treatment might prevent future episodes of acute mastoiditis.

Background: Although European guidelines advise oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) before or shortly after hospital discharge, data supporting this recommendation are inconclusive. We aimed to analyze whether disturbances in glucose metabolism diagnosed before hospital discharge in AMI patients represents a latent pre-existing condition or rather temporary finding. Additionally, we planned to investigate the value of pre-selected glycemic control parameters as predictors of long-term glucometabolic state.
