Oxygen saturation in healthy-term neonates at high altitude: A multisite prospective study.

Objectives: To determine oxygen saturation (SpO) values and their variability in healthy-term neonates at high altitude.

Methods: In a prospective multisite, non-randomized blinded study, we performed SpO measurements in healthy neonates admitted to postnatal wards and followed up in Public Health Nurse Clinics (PHNC) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We recruited healthy-term neonates (≥37 weeks) between 6 and 24 h of age.

The current study focuses on a comparative analysis of various indicators including the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Standardized Water level Index (SWI), Standardized Reservoir Level Index (SRLI), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), NDVI Anomaly, Vegetation Condition Index (VCI), and Evaporative Stress Index (ESI).

Antibiotic Treatment for 7 versus 14 Days in Patients with Bloodstream Infections.

Microplastics (MPs) have become an emerging anthropogenic pollutant, and their ability to sorb contaminants potentially enhances the threats to the ecosystem. Only a few studies are available to understand the combined effects of microplastics and other pollutants. The present study investigated the sorption of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) onto polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) at varying concentrations, using molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) to preliminarily explore the adsorption behavior.

We have reported that D,L-thiol esters, including D-cysteine ethyl ester (D-CYSee), are effective at overcoming opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD) in rats. Our on-going studies reveal that co-injections of D-CYSee with multi-day morphine injections markedly diminish spontaneous withdrawal that usually occurs after cessation of multiple injections of morphine in rats. Chronically administered opioids are known (1) to alter cellular redox status, thus inducing an oxidative state, and (2) for an overall decrease in DNA methylation, therefore resulting in the transcriptional activation of previously silenced long interspersed elements (LINE-1) retrotransposon genes.

Comparison of Pathologist and Artificial Intelligence-based Grading for Prediction of Metastatic Outcomes After Radical Prostatectomy.

Gleason grade group (GG) is the most powerful prognostic variable in localized prostate cancer; however, interobserver variability remains a challenge. Artificial intelligence algorithms applied to histopathologic images standardize grading, but most have been tested only for agreement with pathologist GG, without assessment of performance with respect to oncologic outcomes. We compared deep learning-based and pathologist-based GGs for an association with metastatic outcome in three surgical cohorts comprising 777 unique patients.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe a case of Nocardia chorioretinitis-related choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in a patient with anti-GM-CSF antibodies with resolution of choroidal neovascularization and visual recovery following a series of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor.

Methods: This study is a case report.

Results: In our case, a 50-year-old female, thought to be immunocompetent, presented with metamorphopsia and decreased visual acuity in the left eye in the setting of disseminated Nocardiosis.

Elevation of the tumor marker CA19-9 in a pancreatic cancer survivor with benign prostatic hyperplasia: A clinical case report.

Serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) is used for recurrence surveillance in patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This report describes the association of increasing CA19-9 in a male PDAC survivor with presence of prostatic hyperplasia. Unexplained elevation of CA19-9 in male PDAC survivors might be attributable to benign prostatic conditions.

Although sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is the most feared epilepsy outcome, there is a dearth of SUDEP counseling provided by neurologists. Background: Although many molecules have been investigated as biomarkers for spinal cord injury (SCI) or ischemic stroke, none of them are specifically induced in central nervous system (CNS) neurons following injuries with low baseline expression. However, neuronal injury constitutes a major pathology associated with SCI or stroke and strongly correlates with neurological outcomes.
