There is an increase in the incidence and prevalence of type-2 diabetes and obesity which leads to the structural and functional changes in myocardium leading to a lethal complication called diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). In the present study, we investigated the preventive effect of cinnamon (3% of bark powder in AIN-93 diet for 3 months) feeding on DCM and the concerned mechanisms in a rodent model. Experimental diabetes was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of 40 mg/kg b.

Objectives: Zinc deficiency is related to reduced growth, mass, and work capacity of skeletal muscle. However, the underlying mechanisms in connection with skeletal muscle proteostasis and mitochondrial biology are not clear. The aim of this study was to investigate the consequences of dietary zinc deficiency on skeletal muscle proteostasis and mitochondrial biology in growing rats.

Purpose: Obesity is a global health problem associated with several diseases including ocular complications. Earlier we reported progressive retinal degeneration because of obesity in a spontaneous obese rat (WNIN/Ob) model. In the current study, we examined the molecular mechanisms leading to retinal degeneration in WNIN/Ob rat.

Purpose: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most frequently occurring complication of diabetes. Alterations in ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) have been associated with several degenerative disorders. Hence, in this study, we investigated the status and role of UPS and ER stress in the retina of diabetic rats.

Purpose: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with several degenerative diseases, including retinal degeneration. Previously, we reported on progressive retinal degeneration in a spontaneous obese rat (WNIN/Ob) model. In this study, we investigated the additional effect of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), an essential component of MetS, on retinal degeneration using the WNIN/GR-Ob rat model.

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the effect of emu oil on bioavailability of curcumin when co-administered and to evaluate the property that enhances the anti-inflammatory potential of curcumin. Oral bioavailability of curcumin in combination with emu oil was determined by measuring the plasma concentration of curcumin by HPLC. The anti-inflammatory potential was evaluated in carrageenan-induced paw edema model (acute model) and in Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA)-induced arthritis model (chronic model) in male SD rats.

Purpose: Small heat shock proteins (sHsps) have a critical role under stress conditions to maintain cellular homeostasis by their involvement in protein-folding and cytoprotection. The hyperglycemia in diabetes may impose cellular stress on the retina. Therefore, we investigated the expression of sHsps, phosphoregulation of αB-crystallin (αBC), and their localization in the diabetic rat retina.

High intake of dietary fructose has been shown to exert a number of adverse metabolic effects in humans and experimental animals. The present study was proposed to elucidate the effect of Catharanthus roseus (C. roseus) leaf powder treatment on alterations in carbohydrate and lipid metabolisms in rats fed with high-fructose diet.

Background And Objectives: The present study investigated the effect of Commiphora mukul ethanol extract gum resin (CMEEt) on streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats by measuring fasting blood glucose, plasma insulin, plasma lipid profile, atherogenic index, hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO), protein oxidation (PO) and activities of enzymatic antioxidants.

Methods: Wistar albino rats were divided into 4 groups, normal control group, CM-treated control group, diabetic control group and CM-treated diabetic group. For induction of diabetes, STZ was administered at a dose of 55mg/kg body weight, meanwhile CM-treated groups were administered CMEEt at a dose of 200mg/kg body weight for 60 days.

High intake of dietary fructose exerts a number of adverse metabolic effects. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether aqueous extract of Tinospora cordifolia stem (TCAE) alleviates high-fructose diet-induced insulin resistance and oxidative stress in rats. High-fructose diet (66% of fructose) and TCAE (400 mg/kg/day) were given simultaneously for a period of 60 days.
