There has been a renewed interest for larviciding during the recent decade. Although biological larvicides are considered not to be harmful to non-target organisms, there is still not sufficient data on the effect of new long-lasting larvicide formulations such as VectoMax G combining and on the environment especially on non-target organisms. The present study aimed to assess the possible influence of VectoMax G on the diversity and abundance of the aquatic fauna cohabiting with mosquito larvae in breeding habitats during a larviciding trial in the city of Yaoundé.

Background: SOX17 (SRY-box transcription factor 17) was recently identified as a highly sensitive and specific marker for ovarian and endometrial carcinomas in surgical specimens. In this study, validation of the utility of SOX17 immunohistochemistry (IHC) in diagnosing metastatic gynecologic carcinomas in cytology specimens was sought.

Methods: The study cohort included 84 cases of metastatic carcinomas that included 29 metastatic gynecologic carcinomas (24 ovarian high-grade serous carcinomas, two endometrial serous carcinomas, one low-grade serous carcinoma, one ovarian clear cell carcinoma, and one endometrial endometrioid carcinoma) and 55 cases of metastatic nongynecologic carcinomas (10 clear cell renal cell carcinomas, 10 papillary thyroid carcinomas, 11 gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas, 10 breast carcinomas, 10 lung adenocarcinomas, and four urothelial carcinomas).

We systematically evaluated SOX17 expression on tissue microarrays of 398 ovarian tumors of various types, 93 endometrial carcinomas, 80 cervical carcinomas, and 1371 nongynecologic carcinomas, such as those of kidney, thyroid, breast, colon, bladder, liver, bile duct, adrenal gland, pancreas, brain, and lung and malignant melanoma.

Purpose: This crossover trial compared the effects of varying feedback approaches on sprint performance, motivation, and affective mood states in female athletes.

Methods: Eligibility criteria were being competitive female athletes, where participants completed sprint tests in 4 randomized feedback conditions on grass, including augmented feedback (sprint time; AUG-FB), technical feedback (cues; TECH-FB), a competition-driven drill (CDD) sprinting against an opponent, and a control condition (no feedback; CON). Participants completed a 20-m sprint (maximum sprint), 30-m curved agility sprint, and a repeated sprint ability test, with sprint times, motivation level, and mood states recorded.

The demand for testing during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in the production of several different commercial platforms and laboratory-developed assays for the detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This has created several challenges, including, but not limited to, the standardization of diagnostic testing, utilization of cycle threshold () values for quantitation and clinical interpretation, and data harmonization. Using reference standards consisting of a linear range of SARS-CoV-2 concentrations quantitated by viral culture-based methods and droplet digital PCR, we investigated the commutability and standardization of SARS-CoV-2 quantitation across different laboratories in the United States.

Acute Fatigue Responses to Occupational Training in Military Personnel: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Introduction: Military personnel are required to undertake rigorous physical training to meet the unique demands of combat, often leading to high levels of physiological stress. Inappropriate recovery periods with these high levels of physical stress may result in sub-optimal training and increased risk of injury in military personnel. However, no reviews have attempted to examine the magnitude of training-induced stress following military training activities.

The Effects of HER2 on CDK4/6 Activity in Breast Cancer.

Background: CDK4/6 inhibitors have been used to treat hormone receptor-positive HER2-negative advanced breast cancer. Their benefit in HER2-positive breast cancer has not been determined yet. In this study, we investigated the effects of HER2 on CDK4/6 activity by assessing the level of downstream phosphorylated retinoblastoma protein (pRb) in HER2-positive breast cancer (HER2 positivity is defined by immunohistochemical study or FISH, regardless of ER status) to determine if these cases may be responsive to CDK4/6 inhibitors.

Microscopic findings in key tissues are often critical to determine the cause of death in medical autopsies. The overall quality of histologic sections depends on numerous pre-analytic factors, among which are tissue section size and thickness. We designed a prospective quality improvement study to determine whether a simple intervention of formalin pre-fixation of myocardium, liver, and kidney tissues could improve the ease of cutting and quality of autopsy histologic sections as assessed by histotechnicians and pathologists.

Remodelin Is a Cryptic Assay Interference Chemotype That Does Not Inhibit NAT10-Dependent Cytidine Acetylation.

Remodelin is a putative small molecule inhibitor of the RNA acetyltransferase NAT10 which has shown preclinical efficacy in models of the premature aging disease Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS). Here we evaluate remodelin's assay interference characteristics and effects on NAT10-catalyzed RNA cytidine acetylation. We find the remodelin chemotype constitutes a cryptic assay interference compound, which does not react with small molecule thiols but demonstrates protein reactivity in ALARM NMR and proteome-wide affinity profiling assays.

Acute Effects of Training Loads on Muscle Damage Markers and Performance in Semi-elite and Elite Athletes: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background: The relationship between exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) indicators and acute training loads (TL) is yet to be reviewed extensively in semi-elite and elite athlete populations.

Objectives: The objectives of this systematic review and meta-analysis were threefold: (1) to evaluate studies of EIMD following the initial period of the preseason in semi-elite and elite athletes: (2) to examine acute physiological and performance responses across two periods of the season with similar TL; and (3) to examine acute physiological and performance responses to acute changes in TL during the season.

Methods: The CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus and Web of Science databases were systematically searched for studies that investigated: (1) semi-elite or elite athletes in team or individual sports following a periodised training programme; and (2) measured acute responses to training.

Background: Liquid-based cytology (LBC) tests SurePath (SP) and ThinPrep (TP) have largely replaced conventional Papanicolaou (Pap) tests for cervical cytology screening due to higher sensitivity. However, comparison between SP and TP test sensitivity and efficacy in detecting squamous abnormalities is lacking. Our study aims to compare high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) reporting rates, human papillomavirus (HPV) positivity rates, and histologic outcome between these two LBC methods.
