Article Synopsis
  • - Judo, an Olympic sport, can cause repetitive injuries to the head and ears, leading to a condition known as cauliflower ear, which can be painful and disrupt training.
  • - A study evaluated profile pictures of 1,632 top judo athletes, finding that 55.5% had ear deformities, with male athletes being more affected and more severely impacted than females.
  • - The research, which is the largest of its kind, indicates a correlation between age, world ranking, and the presence of ear deformities, highlighting the need for further studies on the health impacts of these injuries on judo athletes.

Background: Ulnar-sided wrist pain might be caused by a lesion of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). Patients with TFCC lesion may show an instability of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ). Before arthroscopic assessment, conservative therapy using a brace or splint may result in alleviation of symptoms.

Background: The project "ARMIHN" (Adaptive Resiliency Management in Port) focuses on strengthening the capability to act in a mass casualty incident (MCI) due to an outbreak of infectious diseases (MCI-ID). In addition to the current threat from the COVID-19 pandemic and associated outbreaks on cruise ships, previous MCI-ID were especially caused by pathogens such as Influenza virus or Norovirus. The first step was, to get an overview of processes and resources using the example of the Port of Hamburg, and to show the associated interaction of involved parties.

Purpose: Severe accidents are the leading cause of long-term impairment and death in children. A common diagnostic procedure for children exposed to high-injury trauma is full-body contrast-enhanced CT (fbCT). However, the number of fbCT without detected injuries is relevant.

Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 37 studies were analyzed, revealing that the majority of outbreaks occurred on cruise ships, particularly the Diamond Princess, while a few involved navy vessels and one cargo ship.
  • * The study identifies key challenges in managing these outbreaks, such as asymptomatic cases and communication issues, and emphasizes the need for effective infection control measures in outbreak management plans to mitigate transmission risks.

Background: Dislocations of the sternoclavicular joint (anterior/posterior) and acromioclavicular joint (SCJ and ACJ, respectively) are rare injuries in childhood/adolescence, each having its own special characteristics. In posterior SCJ dislocation, the concomitant injuries in the upper mediastinum are most important complication, while in anterior SCJ dislocation there is a risk of permanent or recurrent instability.

Methods: In a retrospective analysis from seven pediatric trauma centers under the leadership of the Section of Pediatric Traumatology of the German Trauma Society, children (<18 years) were analyzed with focus on age, gender, trauma mechanism, diagnostics, treatment strategy and follow-up results.

Preliminary studies show that clavicle fractures (CF) are known as an indicator in the severely injured for overall injury severity that are associated with relevant concomitant injuries in the thorax and upper extremity. In this regard, little data is available for the rarer injuries of the sternoclavicular and acromioclavicular joints (SCJ and ACJ, respectively). Our study will answer whether clavicular joint injuries (CJI), by analogy, have a similar relevance for the severely injured.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common tumor of the musculoskeletal system. Recently, cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been regarded as a promising anti-oncogenic therapy. Previous experimental studies have demonstrated that CAP treatment results in significant growth inhibition of human sarcoma and is able to induce apoptosis.
