It is important to examine the ocular hemodynamic changes after carotid artery stenting (CAS) and carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis (ICAS). We aimed to compare the differences in retinal and optic nerve head blood flow after 2 surgical methods. The ipsilateral eyes of 34 patients who had over 50% ICAS with no ocular findings and 30 healthy controls were included in the study.

This study focused on removing bentazone from water using three different methods: a two and three-dimensional electro-oxidation process (2D/EOP and 3D/EOP) with a fluid-type reactor arrangement using tetraethylenepentamine-loaded particle electrodes and an adsorption method. Additionally, we analysed the effects of two types of supporting electrolytes  (NaSO and NaCl) on the degradation process.

The aim of the study is to determine the usefulness of base excess (BE) and creatine kinase (CK) in predicting the extent of damage to the extremities, the need for hemodialysis, and the likelihood of mortality in crush injuries. Our study included patients who were affected by the earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaras/Turkey on February 6, 2023 and were diagnosed with crush injuries. The study was a retrospective observational study.

In silico identification of SARS-CoV-2 cell entry inhibitors from selected natural antivirals.

The aim of this study is to identify potential drug-like molecules against SARS-CoV-2 virus among the natural antiviral compounds published in the Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine. To test inhibition capability of these compounds first, we docked them with Spike protein, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) (PDB ID: 6M0J) and neuropilin 1 (NRP1) (PDB ID: 7JJC) receptors, and found significant docking scores with extra precision up to -11 kcal/mol. Then, their stability in the binding pockets were further evaluated with molecular dynamics simulation.

Olfactory dysfunction and oxidative stress in pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the first-trimester pregnancy serum total oxidative status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), and serum estradiol levels as well as the olfactory functions assessed using the brief smell identification test (BSIT) of women with healthy pregnancies and those with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG).

Methods: In this prospective study, 60 pregnant women in the first trimester of their pregnancies were divided into two groups: 30 pregnant women with HG (study group) and 30 healthy pregnant women (control group). The following parameters were compared in the HG group and the healthy controls: TOS, TAS, serum levels of estradiol (E2), and olfactory function, which was measured using BSIT.

Methods: This study encompasses two designs; cohort design was developed to evaluate the association of prenatal depression with development of wheezing in infants while nested case-control design was used to assess the role of maternal cortisol and tetranectin and cord blood interleukin 13 and interferon γ.

Introduction: Clinically non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPA) are common tumours of the pituitary gland and are mainly considered as benign. The primary aim of this study was to research the effects of NFPA on genome instability in patients with non-functioning pituitary adenoma by using the cytokinesis-block micronucleus cytome (CBMN-cyt) assay and 8-hydroxy- 2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) assay. The second objective of this study was to assess whether there is a relationship between age, pituitary adenoma diameters, 8-OHDG levels, CBMN site assay parameters, and tumour aggressiveness.

The significance of estrogen receptors in acromegaly: Are they useful as predictors of prognosis and therapy regimen?

Objective: In this study, we considered to assess the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and the expression of estrogen receptor genes (ESR) in the surgical tissue samples of acromegaly patients and the control group patients with nonfunctioning adenoma and their association with disease activity. We also aimed to determine the significance of ER positivity in acromegaly patients and to find out whether it carries a potential to be used as a predictor of prognosis and therapy regimen in the future.
