Background: The broad concept of health as "the ability to adapt and self-manage in the face of social, physical and emotional challenges" has been operationalized by "Positive Health," a framework increasingly used in the Netherlands. We explored to what degree the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and preventive measures on Positive Health differed between community-dwelling older adults without, with mild and with complex health problems, as well as differences flowing from their use of preventive measures.

Seven lots of commercially available Navel oranges grown in California were evaluated with flavoromic, metabolomic, sensory descriptive analysis, and consumer testing techniques to identify sensory and chemical drivers of liking. Eight identified chemical clusters related to numerous sensory attributes and consumer preferences. Predictive analytics monitoring, the use of patient data to provide continuous risk estimation of deterioration, is a promising new application of big data analytical techniques to the care of individual patients. We tested the hypothesis that continuous display of novel electronic risk visualization of respiratory and cardiovascular events would impact intensive care unit (ICU) patient outcomes. Carbon dioxide (CO2) chemical absorption and regeneration was investigated in two diamino carboxylate protic ionic liquids (PILs), dimethylethylenediamine formate (DMEDAH formate) and dimethylpropylenediamine acetate (DMPDAH acetate), using novel calorimetric techniques. The PILs under study have previously been shown to possess a CO2 absorption capacity similar to the industrial standard, 30% aqueous MEA, while requiring much lower temperatures to release the captured CO2. We show that this is in part due to the fact that the PILs exhibit enthalpies of CO2 desorption as low as 40 kJ mol(-1), significantly lower than the 85 kJ mol(-1) required for 30% aqueous MEA.

A simple, fast, and cost-effective sample preparation method, previously developed and validated for the analysis of organic contaminants in fish using low-pressure gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LPGC-MS/MS), was evaluated for the analysis of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) pesticides using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Metal-air batteries are a well-established technology that can offer high energy densities, low cost and environmental responsibility.
