Trismus, characterized by a restricted mouth opening due to involuntary muscle spasms, poses significant challenges to eating, speaking, and other oral functions. In fact, this condition often results from various factors including post-third molar surgery complications, temporalis and medial pterygoid muscle involvement, repeated or incorrectly administered intramuscular injections, and complications from local anesthesia usage. Despite the high safety and efficacy of local anesthetics in oral surgery, side effects including trismus warrant careful consideration.

Some clinicians have advocated extraction and replacement of compromised but treatable teeth on the assumption that implants will outperform endodontically and/or periodontally treated teeth. However, evidence shows that conventional therapy is as effective as implant treatment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA growing number of theories has evolved attempting to explain the process of dental implant failure. Titanium implants utilized outside of the mouth have exhibited breakdown through a foreign body reaction. Phenomena occurring in the body, such as passive dissolution, osteolysis and metallosis, have not been discussed relative to dental implants.

Experimental and clinical data have shown that there is an increase in the necessity of pyrimidine nucleotides after peripheral nerve injury. The aim of the study was to estimate the neuroprotective efficacy of the Nucleo CMP preparation (Nucleo CMP. Ferrer Internacional) containing cytidine monophosphate and uridine triphosphate nucleotides after unilateral compression of the sciatic nerve of rats.

In electrophysiological studies, by extracellular recording of spike activity of single hippocampal neurons (HN) caused by high-frequency stimulation of the entorhinal cortex (EC) in rats with unilateral removal of adrenal (adrenalectomy - AE), we analyzed mechanisms of adaptation of neural networks to chronic hormonal deprivation. The balance of excitatory and inhibitory responses, recorded in HN of intact rats was submitted to characteristic changes in dynamics of development of neurodegeneration: the dominating in norm inhibitory responses were decreased at all AE terms (from 42 % to 25 % by the 18th week).

Purpose: This pilot study aimed to substantiate herpesviral-bacterial coinfection in symptomatic (SP) and asymptomatic (AP) PP and assess associations with periodontopathogen salivary contamination in patients receiving implants.
Purpose: To evaluate and compare the volume of bone graft material that can be safely harvested from the mandibular symphysis and rami using a computer-aided design (CAD) software program.
Materials And Methods: Preoperative computerized tomography scans from 40 patients undergoing bone augmentation procedures were analyzed. Symphysis and rami cross sections were mapped using a CAD software program (AutoCAD(®), Autodesk, Inc.

The aim of the investigation was the analyzes of somatic pathology according to sex in hospitalized pediatric patients in Armenia in 2003-2009. The study showed the prevail of respiratory diseases, congenital abnormalities, defects and chromosomal abnormalities and certain states arising in the perinatal period. The structure of diseases according to sex showed boys and girls itself is somewhat different, which may suggest diversity of the undertaken activities, especially in developing tactics and strategies for prevention and treatment of such patients.

The author found that in different years it underwent certain changes but respiratory diseases, innate defects and perinatal problems constantly prevailed. The study showed that in all geographical areas respiratory diseases, congenital abnormalities (development abnormalities), defects and chromosomal abnormalities and certain states arising in the perinatal period always prevail.

Management of patients affected with aggressive periodontitis is complicated by several poorly understood etiological and modifying factors that create difficulty in establishing a universal treatment recommendation. The goal of this manuscript is to underscore the complexity of therapy and to provide some guidelines in the decision-making process and interdisciplinary therapy. A dynamic approach is presented to formulate strategies in diagnosis and treatment planning that is both patient-and site-specific.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAggressive periodontitis has had many names as well as theories behind its etiology. The current paper looks to investigate this history and show the evolution of both nomenclature and understanding. Going beyond academic debates, emerging trends and conventions are also examined and placed into a clinical perspective.

Human herpesviruses-associated vasculitis can cause vascular damage within the osseous graft and host. This study is conducted to substantiate specific contamination and assess the impact 6 months after sinus augmentation.

Purpose: To assess the esthetic and functional outcome, as well as the volume maintenance, of autogenous block grafts placed in anterior sextants of thin periodontal biotype subjects over a long-term period.
Materials And Methods: Fifteen consecutive patients were followed up yearly for an average of 40 months after autogenous block grafting. Preoperative and postoperative cone beam computed tomographic scans were analyzed to evaluate bone volume maintenance around the implants placed in the grafted sites.
Background: There are limited data on the healing potential of osseous defects in the human mandible. Animal model studies have shown that defect fill is size dependent.
Methods: Twenty patients who had autogenous block transplants harvested from the mandibular symphysis were included in the study.

Background: When alveolar atrophy impairs dental implant placement, ridge augmentation using mandibular ramus graft may be considered. In live patients, however, an accurate calculation of the amount of bone that can be safely harvested from the ramus has not been reported. The use of a software program to perform these calculations can aid in preventing surgical complications.

Little is known about the potential long-term influence of periodontal biotype on the volume maintenance of block grafts.
Methods: Forty patients who received autogenous block transplants prior to implant placement were included in the study.

Background: Autogenous intramembranous bone graft present several advantages such as minimal resorption and high concentration of bone morphogenetic proteins. A method for measuring the amount of bone that can be harvested from the symphysis area has not been reported in real patients.
Purpose: The aim of the present study was to intrasurgically quantitate the volume of the symphysis bone graft that can be safely harvested in live patients and compare it with AutoCAD (version 16.
Brånemark established the concept of osseointegrated dental implants as a predictable modality for treatment of edentulous patients. He defined osseointegration as bone-to-implant contact at the microscopic level. Osseointegration was a revolutionary concept in implant dentistry.

Methods: Thirty focus groups were conducted nationwide with young women and women of color age 40 and older.
Results: Women wanted breast cancer messages to convince them that they are at risk and that screening is critical and to provide clear and detailed information about breast cancer and breast cancer screening guidelines.
