is commonly associated with the ability to acquire antimicrobial resistance. The surveillance of resistance genes in various environmental matrices has gained prominence in recent years, being seen as a potential threat to public health. The objective of this study was to investigate genes encoding metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs), which confer resistance to carbapenems, in wastewater.

The hexanic extracts of , , and , and three isolated dimeric acylphloroglucinols (uliginosin B, japonicine A and hyperbrasilol B) were assayed for their antimicrobial activity against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (including resistant strains). These extracts were assayed using the disc diffusion test, and the results indicated that the tested species did non exhibit activity on the Gram-negative strains. Subsequently, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were measured using the broth dilution technique adopted to macrodillution.

Introduction: Helicobacter pylori is a bacteria which infects half the world population and is an important cause of gastric cancer. The eradication therapy is not always effective because resistance to antimicrobials may occur. The aim of this study was to determine the susceptibility profile of H.

Context: Alternanthera brasiliana (L.) Kuntze (Amarantaceae) is widely used in Brazilian traditional medicine as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

Objective: To investigate the potential anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anxiolytic, and locomotor effect of the infusions in preclinical models.

Introduction: The appearance of metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter sp. is a challenge for hospitals.

Methods: The production of MBL in clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter sp.

This study determined the prevalence of metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in two hospitals located in the Southern part of Brazil and compare the performance of two different phenotypic tests. Thirty-one non-repetitive Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from various clinical samples from patients admitted to two hospitals located in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (twenty-three from a hospital in Porto Alegre City and eight isolates from a hospital in Vale dos Sinos Region). All strains suggestive of possessing MBLs by phenotypic methods were included in this study.

Purpose: To determine aerobic bacterial microbiota of the conjunctiva of cornea donors and its patterns of susceptibility to antibiotics; verify the number of corneas used for transplant and the average time of preservation in solutions with gentamicin and streptomycin; trace the profile of donors and receptors of cornea.

Methods: Clinical specimens were collected from the inferior bag of the conjunctiva of both eyes of 40 cornea donors. The samples were inoculated into acid blood, chocolate and MacConkey agars, and the antibiogram was performed by the Kirby-Bauer method.
