Melanoma is the most severe form of skin cancer with an incidence that is increasing all over the world. Melanoma cells derive from normal melanocytes and share different melanocyte-specific antigens, the same antigens against which an immune reaction develops in vitiligo, a skin disease characterized by autoimmune-mediated melanocyte destruction. The purpose of this review is to present the autoimmune-mediated melanocyte destruction associated with melanoma development, progression and treatment.

The first line therapy is surgical excision, but topical therapies can be used in low-risk superficial BCCs, while the more advanced, unresectable, or metastatic BCCs benefit from systemic therapies with hedgehog inhibitors and immunotherapy. The purpose of this review is to highlight local and systemic immunotherapies and their efficacy in the management of BCCs.

The occurrence of second primary malignancies is becoming increasingly important among cancer survivors. Melanoma, an aggressive neoplasm originating from the melanocytes, is responsible for most skin cancer-related deaths. This review aims to explore the risk of melanoma occurrence as a second primary cancer after the most common subtypes of hematologic neoplasia, a malignant disease originating from myeloid or lymphocytic cell lineages.

It was first recognized in the 19th century, yet its classification is still debated due to the limited number of reported cases. This rare variant of scleroderma is associated with either progressive systemic sclerosis or localized morphea.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the diagnosis and prognosis of melanoma.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included histopathologically confirmed melanoma cases from March 2019 to February 2023 in Cluj and Bihor counties.
Telogen effluvium post-COVID-19 is a condition characterized by the diffuse and reversible loss of scalp hair in the period following infection with SARS-CoV-2, and it is currently the second cause of alopecia in women. In the context of the COVID-19 infection, intense psychological stress contributes to alopecia appearance, along with systemic inflammation, autoimmune reactions, oxidative stress, and virally induced hypoxia. Cytokines with proinflammatory action and vasoactive substances negatively modulate the metabolism of some molecules, such as proteoglycans, involved in the hair follicle's growth cycle.

The aim of this literature review is to identify and integrate the incidence rates and other characteristics of multiple primary melanomas. A total of 36 independent studies were included in this review.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the healthcare system in our country and led non-COVID patients to postpone medical visits that were not urgent. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic on the trends in melanoma diagnosis and to compare the pathological characteristics of melanoma patients before and during the pandemic. The number of primary cutaneous melanomas diagnosed each month between 1 March 2019 and 29 February 2020 (pre-COVID-19) and between 1 March 2020 and 28 February 2021 (COVID-19) in the North-Western Region of Romania (Cluj and Bihor counties) was determined.

Optimal and early management relies on accurate diagnosis. Unfortunately, clinical diagnosis in early stages is difficult due to the clinical overlap with other dermatologic conditions.

Actinic cheilitis (AC) has a higher likelihood of developing into invasive SCC of the lip, which is one of the deadliest non-melanoma skin cancers. Risk factors include chronic UV exposure, increasing age, male gender, fair phototypes, chronic scarring, immunosuppressive therapy, and tobacco use.

The gold standard for treatment is surgical excision with histologically safe margins. Even so, tumors excised with free margins may recur after a period of time.

Dermoscopy, a non-invasive technique, allows early diagnosis based on the presence of typical vascular structures, pigmented structures, and ulceration and the absence of specific melanocytic structures. Moreover, dermoscopy is useful in basal cell carcinoma management, enabling the differentiation between multiple histological subtypes, between pigmented and non-pigmented variants and allowing a more accurate assessment of surgical margins.

Ultrasound (US) is the reliable first-line imaging technique to assess flow parameters. However, in some cases, US fails to depict the real extent of the lesions.

Patients from the Department of Dermatology, County Emergency Hospital Cluj-Napoca (Cluj-Napoca, Romania), presenting with cutaneous melanoma confirmed histopathologically and a SPECT/CT or lymphoscintigraphic examination to detect the sentinel lymph node, were included in the present study. Our results revealed that Breslow index >2 mm [odds ratio (OR)=4.

A positive effect of UV on the skin is its contribution to the synthesis of vitamin D, which is important in sustaining general health, but having high levels of vitamin D is considered a risk factor for BCC. However, vitamin D receptor has antagonistic effects to UV radiation in regulating Sonic Hedgehog pathway.

Our aim was to document and compare melanoma risk factors and skin health behaviour in patients diagnosed with melanoma and people not affected by this disease in a large medical university centre from Romania (Cluj-Napoca). Two hundred and forty-seven melanoma patients followed-up in the Department of Dermatology at the Cluj-Napoca Emergency County Hospital and 956 people not affected by melanoma completed a paper-based questionnaire regarding melanoma risk factors, risk behaviour and self-protecting measures, after giving informed consent.
