Article Synopsis
  • * Traditional methods of assessing OSR flower production are slow and subjective, but a new technique using drones and multispectral imaging allows for faster, more accurate data collection on crop growth and flower numbers.
  • * By using a simplified index to analyze flower production, researchers found a strong correlation between their yield estimates and actual yields, proving this method can effectively predict OSR seed yield three months before harvest.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created a series of anthracene compounds that have bulky tert-butyl groups to study their structural characteristics.
  • The bulky substituents force the molecule's conformation to have its three rings positioned at right angles to each other in the ground state.
  • In fluorescence experiments, the compounds showed some tendency to become more planar when excited at normal temperatures, but this planarization is hindered in low-temperature conditions.

The torsional motions of jet-cooled 1,4-bis(phenylethynyl)benzene (BPEB), a prototype molecular wire, were studied using cavity ring-down spectroscopy in the first UV absorption band (316-321 nm). The torsional spectrum of 1,4-bis(phenylethynyl)-2,3,5,6-tetradeuteriobenzene was also recorded in the gas phase. Both spectra were successfully simulated using simple cosine potentials to describe the torsional motions.
