The speciation, behaviour, and bioavailability of released selenium (Se) from mine effluent discharge to sediments and plants were assessed. Discharged mine effluent containing 65±0.9 μg/L of total Se subsequently contaminated the exposed sediment with an average total Se concentration of 321 mg/kg as well as exposed Typha latifolia plants where 534 and 92 mg/kg were found in roots and leaves, respectively.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtrazine (ATZ) is one of the most common pesticides detected in surface water in Quebec (Canada). The present study was mainly focused on the degradation of ATZ and its by-products using electrochemical advanced oxidation processes such as photo-electro-Fenton (PEF), electro-Fenton (EF) and anodic-oxidation with simultaneous HO formation (AO - HO). The comparison of these processes showed that PEF process was found to be the most effective process in removing ATZ and its by-products from both synthetic solution (ATZ = 100 μg L) and real agricultural surface water enriched with ATZ (ATZ = 10 μg L).

The coexistence of anatase and rutile were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the presence of oxygen vacancies reduce the value of the observed bandgap to 3.0 eV compared to the typical 3.

The electrochemical degradation of carbamazepine (CBZ) in both synthetic solutions (CBZo = 12 mg/L) and enriched municipal effluents (CBZo = 60-70 μg/L) was investigated using an electro-Fenton (EF) process. Different operating parameters were investigated, including current intensity, pH, reaction time, ferrous ion concentration, and the type of anode material. The current intensity, the type of anode material, and the concentration of ferrous ions played an important role in the CBZ degradation efficiency.
