Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the association between fracture and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) in postmenopausal women enrolled in the Women's Health Initiative Estrogen Plus Progestin trial.

Methods: POP was assessed as cystocele, rectocele, or uterine prolapse and was graded as either "absent to mild" or "moderate to severe." Cox proportional hazard analyses (adjusting for age, body mass index, race, asthma, emphysema, thyroid disease, family history of fracture, regular menses, age at menopause, nulliparity, history of hormone therapy [HT], history of falls, socioeconomic status, calcium, and vitamin D supplementation and physical activity) explored the relationships between moderate to severe POP and incident bone fractures.

Objective: Testing a hypothesis that pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a focal manifestation of disordered connective tissue, we evaluated whether there is an association between POP and history of fracture.

Design: This was a case-control study. Baseline data were from postmenopausal women aged 60 years or older enrolled in the Women's Health Initiative Estrogen Plus Progestin trial.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine if use of a Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist, Ganirelix (Antagon), can improve pregnancy rates during superovulation with recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone (rFSH) followed by intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Study Design: This was a multicenter, prospective, randomized, open-label, assessor-blind, controlled trial of females (n = 54), ages 18 to 39 undergoing superovulation/IUI with up to 4 cycles of superovulation/IUI without Ganirelix (n = 66), or up to 4 cycles of superovulation/IUI with the addition of Ganirelix (n = 52).

Results: No statistically significant difference in clinical pregnancy rates per cycle initiated was found for patients in the treatment or control group (12% vs 7%, P =.

Objective: The terms "natural" or "bioidentical" hormone therapy (NHT) are used to describe hormone treatment with individually compounded recipes of certain steroids in various dosage forms, including dehydroepiandrosterone, pregnenolone, testosterone, progesterone, estrone, estradiol, and estriol. Based on the results of a person's salivary hormone levels, the final composition of the compounded dosage form is individualized to that specific person. Proponents claim that NHT is better tolerated than manufactured products.

Design: Study participants were from the Women's Health Initiative Clinical Trial and Observational Study cohorts. All women were postmenopausal; populations included American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, black, Hispanic, and non-Hispanic white.

Objective: Our purpose was to assess the efficacy of two recombinant follicle-stimulating hormones, follitropin beta (Follistim, Organon, West Orange, NJ) and follitropin alfa (Gonal F, Serono, Norwell, Mass) on pregnancy rates in varying age groups of women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Study Design: Three hundred sixty-five IVF cycles were retrospectively compared, 233 by use of follitropin beta and 132 by use of follitropin alfa, both after gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist down-regulation. Assignment to each medication was indiscriminate.
