Barriers to PrEP uptake exist at the system, provider, and individual/client level. To learn how existing training and advertising can be adapted to address race- and sex-based gaps within PrEP service delivery, we conducted focus groups with providers and Black women.

Effect of ambient gas and crystal features on Doppler ultrasound twinkling of pathological mineralizations.

Color Doppler twinkling on kidney stones and other pathological mineralizations is theorized to arise from stable microbubbles, which suggests twinkling will be sensitive to ambient gas. Here, lab-grown cholesterol, calcium phosphate, and uric acid crystals were imaged with ultrasound in water while varying oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen levels. Twinkling was found to increase on cholesterol in elevated oxygen, cholesterol and calcium phosphate in elevated carbon dioxide, and no crystals in elevated nitrogen.

Using validated assays (GP-ELISA and PRNT), we measured antibody responses after 1-dose rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP, 2-dose rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP (given on Day 0 and Day 56), or placebo.

Ablation of Stage I-II Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in Patients With Interstitial Lung Disease: A Multicenter Retrospective Study.

Treatment options for patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) who develop stage I-II non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are severely limited, given that surgical resection, radiation, and systemic therapy are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of percutaneous ablation of stage I-II NSCLC in patients with ILD. This retrospective study included patients with ILD and stage I-II NSCLC treated with percutaneous ablation in three health systems between October 2004 and February 2023.

Clinician-rated ICD-11 trait domains and personality disorder types.

The (11th edition; ) has adopted a classification of personality disorders (PDs) that abolishes the established (10th edition; ) PD types in favor of global severity and stylistic trait domain specifiers. The goal of the current study was to describe the empirical relationship between traditional PD types and the trait domains, which is anticipated to inform and guide clinicians in this profound transition. A total of 246 patients were rated by their clinicians.

Pain monitoring app leads to less pain in children with cancer at home: Results of a randomized controlled trial.

Background: The authors developed a pain monitoring app offering educational information, and real-time health care professional feedback on clinically significant pain (>4 numeric rating scale [NRS]-11) for children with cancer to reduce pain at home.

Methods: This monocenter, nonblinded randomized controlled trial enrolled Dutch children (0-18 years old) receiving cancer treatment (≥3 months after diagnosis, ≥2 months treatment remaining). Children were randomly assigned to use the app or receive usual care (two parallel groups).

Comparison of osteoclast differentiation protocols from human induced pluripotent stem cells of different tissue origins.

Background: Ever since their discovery, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have been extensively differentiated into a large variety of cell types. Towards Tailored Dialdehyde Cellulose Derivatives: A Strategy for Tuning the Glass Transition Temperature.

The derivatization of dialdehyde cellulose (DAC) has received increasing attention in the development of sustainable thermoplastics. In this study, a series of dialcohol celluloses were generated by borohydride reduction, which exhibited glass transition temperature (T ) values ranging from 23 to 109 °C, depending on the initial degree of oxidation (DO) of the DAC intermediate. However, the DAC derivatives did not exhibit thermoplastic behavior when the DO of the modified DAC was below 26 %.

A validated open-source deep-learning algorithm called Sybil can accurately predict long-term lung cancer risk from a single low-dose chest computed tomography (LDCT). However, Sybil was trained on a majority-male cohort. Use of artificial intelligence algorithms trained on imbalanced cohorts may lead to inequitable outcomes in real-world settings.

A Mobile App to Assist the Mentors of African American Young Men Who Have Sex With Men: Usability Study.

Background: Mentoring can promote positive youth development. Owing to social and structural factors, young people in underresourced communities often lack adequate access to mentors, and naturally occurring mentors are more common than formal, programmatic mentors. There is little information on the impact of naturally occurring mentors on youth in general and even less on the role that mentors may play in promoting healthy outcomes in sexual and gender minority youth.

Background: Harnessing the anti-tumor immune system response by targeting the program cell death protein (PD-1) and program cell death ligand protein (PD-L1) axis has been a major breakthrough in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) therapy. Nonetheless, conventional imaging tools cannot accurately assess response in immunotherapy-treated patients. Using a lung cancer syngeneic mouse model responder to immunotherapy, we aimed to demonstrate that [Zr]-anti-PD-1 immuno-PET is a safe and feasible imaging modality to assess the response to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade in NSCLC.

Association between subclinical atherosclerosis and cardiac structure and function-results from the UK Biobank Study.

Aims: Heart failure (HF) is a major health problem and early diagnosis is important. Atherosclerosis is the main cause of HF and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) is a recognized early measure of atherosclerosis. This study aimed to investigate whether increased carotid IMT is associated with changes in cardiac structure and function in middle-aged participants of the UK Biobank Study without overt cardiovascular disease.

Effects of plantar fascia stiffness on the internal mechanics of idiopathic pes cavus by finite element analysis: implications for metatarsalgia.

Metatarsalgia occurring in individuals with pes cavus is typically associated with abnormal loading patterns in the forefoot resulting from structural alterations. Simultaneously, the frequent overstress of the plantar fascia (PF) caused by the persistence of this foot deformity may further exacerbate the chronic pain induced by metatarsal overload. We aimed to investigate and quantify the effects of PF stiffness on the internal biomechanics of pes cavus using a computational modelling approach.
