Background And Purpose: Non-invasive, simple, and repetitive swallowing evaluation is required to prevent aspiration pneumonia in neurological care. We investigated the usefulness of swallowing sound evaluation in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) using our new electronic stethoscope artificial intelligence (AI) analysis tool.
Methods: We studied patients with ALS who provided written informed consent.
Background: Carotid blowout syndrome (CBS) is a life-threatening disease characterized by compromise of the carotid artery by head and neck cancer (HNC).
Materials And Methods: We reviewed the characteristics and outcomes of all patients with carotid blowout syndrome who were treated between April 2010 and December 2019. Twelve patients with a history of HNC and radiation therapy were investigated.
Since the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident, we have established an archive system of livestock and wild animals from the surrounding ex-evacuation zone. Wildlife within the alert zone have been exposed to low-dose-rate (LDR) radiation for a long continuous time. In this study, we analysed the morphological characteristics of the testes and in vitro fertilization (IVF) capacity of cryopreserved sperm of racoons from the ex-evacuation zone of the FDNPP accident.

Recently lamivudine has been reported to be effective in suppressing the replication of HBV under such conditions. Here we report two cases with HBV carrier status and with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma who were successfully treated with high-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation with the administration of lamivudine to prevent HBV flare-up.

The metabolically 32P-labelings of both serines and threonines in vitro in osteopontin immunoprecipitated from rat osteoblast-like ROS 17/2.8 cells may suggest that casein kinase II catalyzes this modification.

Since the introduction of coronary perfusion catheter system for the support of coronary perfusion during PTCA we could reduce the number of emergent cases and these patients could be operated on semi-emergently and securely without endangering co-medical staffs in a hurry. It is also unnecessary to be on standby all the time when the PTCA is being undertaken.

Four metabolites, other than unchanged T-3761, were detected and identified as follows: T-3761 glucuronide; T-3761M1, adduct of glucose; T-3761M2 and T-3761M3, compounds metabolized at 1-aminocyclopropyl ring. In urine of mouse, T-3761 glucuronide was mainly detected, but in urine of other animals, T-3761 was mainly detected.

The ability of EUS to diagnose the depth of invasion was examined in 40 lesions with superficial esophageal carcinoma between January 1993 and April 1994. The depth of invasion was classified as m1 or m2, m3 or sm1, and sm2 or more.

The present study was performed to examine living conditions of elderly diabetic patients in rural areas in Iwate and Miyagi in northern Honsyu and compared them with similar cases in Tokyo. One hundred and nine cases over 60 years old were interviewed, and results were compared to 109 age- and sex-matched random samples in the Tokyo area. The original Tokyo subjects consisted of 383 outpatients of the Diabetic Clinic of Tokyo Metropolitan Geriatric Hospital.

Coin lesions in the thoracic cavity, skin, muscle and connective tissue are clearly observed by computed tomography (CT). However, it is very difficult to detect abnormal shadows in the ribs by thoracic CT at the mediastinal level. We describe 3 cases of pulmonary nodules that were not detected by CT at the mediastinal or lung field level, however, but could be detected at the bone level.

When swine were orally inoculated with virulent virus, IgA antibody activity was detected in the contents of the small intestine and in serum from postinoculation days 7 to 56. However, IgA antibody activity was not detected in the contents of the small intestine or serum in swine inoculated IM with attenuated virus.
