Comprehensive evaluation of xylometazoline hydrochloride formulations: Ex-vivo and in-vitro studies.

Xylometazoline is a well-established nasal decongestant that has been used alone and in combination with dexpanthenol as an over the counter (OTC) medicine. Considering the possibility of further improvement of xylometazoline nasal formulations, hyaluronic acid (HA) was evaluated as an additional ingredient. The aim of this study was to investigate the permeation, mucosal retention, and mucoadhesion properties of a new xylometazoline-HA [Xylo-HA] formulation ex vivo and to explore the potential benefits of incorporating HA in the formulation in vitro.

AKI induced by CP chemotherapy remains an obstacle during patient treatments. Extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases 1/2 (ERK), key participants in CP-induced nephrotoxicity, are suggested to be involved in the regulation of mitophagy, autophagy, and apoptosis. Human renal proximal tubular cells (HK-2) and BALB/cN mice were used to determine the role of ERK in CP-induced AKI.

Realizing in-house algorithm-driven free fibula flap set up within 24 hours: a pilot study evaluating accuracy with open-source tools.

Objective: This study aims to critically evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of a time safing and cost-efficient open-source algorithm for in-house planning of mandibular reconstructions using the free osteocutaneous fibula graft. The evaluation focuses on quantifying anatomical accuracy and assessing the impact on ischemia time.

Methods: A pilot study was conducted, including patients who underwent in-house planned computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) of free fibula flaps between 2021 and 2023.

Isolated Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis of the Sciatic Nerve: A Case Report and Overview of the Literature.

Isolated deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) of sacral nerve roots or major pelvic nerves, including the sciatic nerve, is considered to be extremely rare. Due to the overlap with sciatica symptoms, the diagnosis of sciatica DIE is difficult yet crucial, as it results in permanent neural damage if left untreated. We report a case of a 45-year-old woman who experienced a three-year-long and recently exacerbating pain in her right leg, accompanied by a tingling sensation and weakness in her right leg and foot, with difficulty walking.

Novel nasal formulation of xylometazoline with hyaluronic acid: In vitro ciliary beat frequency study.

Acute viral rhinosinusitis (viral ARS), or commonly referred to as the "common cold", is caused by respiratory viruses that cause disruption of the airway epithelial barrier and mucociliary dysfunction. Treatment of ARS is mainly symptomatic, with xylometazoline, a direct-acting α-adrenoceptor agonist, commonly used as a nasal decongestant. Unfortunately, this treatment does not resolve the epithelial dysfunction observed in ARS, and its use might negatively impact the nasal mucosa causing issues such as dryness, stinging, burning, rebound congestion, as well as atrophy.

Pediatric appendicular actinomycosis: a case report and literature review.

Sinomenine is a pharmacologically active alkaloid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. We aimed to investigate the mechanism of renoprotective activity of sinomenine in kidney injury induced by cisplatin (CP). Sinomenine (5 mg/kg) was administered to mice orally in two doses, the second day after intraperitoneal application of CP (13 mg/kg).

Antitumor activity of luteolin in human colon cancer SW620 cells is mediated by the ERK/FOXO3a signaling pathway.

The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism of the anticancer activity of luteolin in metastatic human colon cancer SW620 cells. Luteolin dose-dependently reduced the viability and proliferation of SW620 cells and increased the expression of antioxidant enzymes. The expression of antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 decreased whereas the expression of proapoptotic proteins Bax and caspase-3 increased by luteolin treatment, resulting in increased poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) cleavage and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) positivity.

Oleanolic acid (OA) is a natural triterpenoid that possesses numerous beneficial health effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic activities. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effect of OA (10 and 40 mg/kg) on cisplatin (CP)-induced (13 mg/kg) nephrotoxicity. Treatment with OA 40 mg/kg once daily for 2 days, 48 h after CP-intoxication, ameliorated the increased serum markers and histological features of kidney injury.

A search for doubly charged scalar bosons decaying into boson pairs is presented. It uses a data sample from proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016.
