Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how being overweight before pregnancy (prepregnancy BMI) affects the chances of getting preeclampsia (PE) in women having twins.
  • Overweight women were more likely to report PE (11.8%) compared to non-overweight women (5.6%) and had more complications after giving birth.
  • Factors like gaining too much weight during pregnancy and low protein levels were linked to PE for both groups, while taking aspirin and having certain types of twins helped reduce risks.

Purpose: To identify the presence of endogenous superoxide anion-generating system in rabbit lens epithelial cells.

Methods: The generation of superoxide anion was quantified by using lucigenin-amplified chemiluminescence (LUCL) in intact rabbit lens epithelial cells (N/N 1003A). The LUCL readings were recorded with a luminometer (LumiStar BMG) immediately upon arachidonic acid (AA) addition.
