Stress and personal resource as predictors of the adjustment of parents to autistic children: a multivariate model.

The research validates a multivariate model that predicts parental adjustment to coping successfully with an autistic child. The model comprises four elements: parental stress, parental resources, parental adjustment and the child's autism symptoms. 176 parents of children aged between 6 to 16 diagnosed with PDD answered several questionnaires measuring parental stress, personal resources (sense of coherence, locus of control, social support) adjustment (mental health and marriage quality) and the child's autism symptoms.

[Pruritus and the hepatitis C virus. The MULTIVIRC Unit].

Objective: Determine the characteristics of pruritus in a selected population of patients with positive hepatitis C virus serology.

Patients And Methods: In a retrospective study, we re-examined outpatient reports for patients who consulted for pruritus from January 1993 to April 1996 and were followed in a hepatology unit for hepatitis C infection. The following data were collected: age, sex, risk factors, HIV and HBV serologies, duration of pruritus and diagnosis, ALAT, gamma GT and total bilirubin, METAVIR score, HCV RNA PCR, search for cryoglobulins, antiviral and dermatology treatments.

Disseminated cutaneous botryomycosis--an unexpected diagnosis after 20-years' duration.

A 35-year-old man presented with nodular suppurative lesions of the buttocks and the neck evolving over 20 years. A diagnosis of botryomycosis was established. Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter baumanii and coagulase negative Staphylococcus were isolated from the biopsy specimen.
