Objective: The Asia-Pacific Evaluation of Cardiovascular Therapies (ASPECT) collaboration was established to inform on percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the Asia-Pacific Region. Our aims were to (i) determine the operational requirements to assemble an international individual patient dataset and validate the processes of governance, data quality and data security, and subsequently (ii) describe the characteristics and outcomes for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients undergoing PCI in the ASPECT registry.
Methods: Seven (7) ASPECT members were approached to provide a harmonised anonymised dataset from their local registry.
In 2010, the Asian Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (ASCI) provided recommendations for cardiac CT and MRI, and this document reflects an update of the 2010 ASCI appropriate use criteria (AUC). In 2016, the ASCI formed a new working group for revision of AUC for noninvasive cardiac imaging. A major change that we made in this document is the rating of various noninvasive tests (exercise electrocardiogram, echocardiography, positron emission tomography, single-photon emission computed tomography, radionuclide imaging, cardiac magnetic resonance, and cardiac computed tomography/angiography), compared side by side for their applications in various clinical scenarios.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme (CRP) is well-established in improving clinical outcomes but the assessment of actual clinical improvement is challenging, especially when considering pharmaceutical care (PC) values in phase I CRP during admission and upon discharge from hospital and phase II outpatient interventions. This study explores the impact of pharmacists' interventions in the early stages of CRP on humanistic outcomes and follow-up at a referral hospital in Malaysia.

This study analysed the characteristics of hospitalised elderly patients with ACS, and compared the outcomes of treatments.
Methods: From 29 December 2005 to 26 April 2010, 13,545 patients were admitted for ACS in 16 hospitals across Malaysia.
Background: Sex differences in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have been well studied in major registries and clinical trials in Western populations. Limited studies have examined the sex differences in ACS using a large number of Asian women as the subjects.
Objectives: The aim was to study the sex differences in ACS using the NCVD-ACS (National Cardiovascular Disease Database-Acute Coronary Syndrome) registry.

Background: Clinicians and other stakeholders recognize the need for clinical registries to monitor data in order to improve the outcome and quality of care in the delivery of medical interventions. The establishment of a collaboration across the Asia Pacific Region to inform on variations in patient and procedural characteristics and associated clinical outcomes would enable regional benchmarking of quality.
Aims & Methods: The aims of the collaboration are a) to identify the characteristics of patients undergoing PCI across the Asia Pacific region, b) to report on outcomes of patients undergoing PCI, c) to develop an appropriate ethnic and region specific risk adjustment model for patients undergoing PCI and d) to establish a registry framework for research, education and training in the area of cardiovascular interventions across the Asia Pacific Region.
Background And Objectives: Understanding the nature and pattern of young coronary artery disease (CAD) is important due to the tremendous impact on these patients' socio-economic and physical aspect. Data on young CAD in the southeast Asian region is rather patchy and limited. Hence we utilized our National Cardiovascular Disease Database (NCVD)-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Registry to analyze young patients who underwent PCI in the year 2007 to 2009.

Methods: The study comprised of 1,961 women and 8,593 men who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and were included in the Malaysian NCVD-PCI Registry from 2007-2009. Significant stenosis was defined as ≥70% stenosis in at least one of the epicardial vessels.
Background: Carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) is a surrogate marker for atherosclerosis, used to identify asymptomatic individuals at increased risk of cardiovascular events. The primary objective of this study was to obtain the distribution of CIMT measurements in Asian individuals with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors who were not receiving lipid-lowering agents.
Methods: Mean CIMT based on ultrasonographic measurement of 12 sites within the common carotid artery was recorded for 2726 subjects across eight Asian countries who had two or more CVD risk factors but were not receiving lipid-lowering therapy.
Objectives: This study sought to compare the efficacy and safety results after coronary implantation of a combined sirolimus-eluting CD34 antibody coated Combo stent (OrbusNeich Medical, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) with the paclitaxel-eluting Taxus Liberté stent (PES) (Boston Scientific, Natick, Massachusetts). This report summarizes the first-in-man randomized, controlled multicenter REMEDEE trial (Randomized study to Evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an abluMinal sirolimus coatED bio-Engineered StEnt) angiographic, intravascular ultrasound, and clinical results up to 12 months.

The radiation dose received by cardiologists during percutaneous coronary interventions, electrophysiology procedures and other interventional cardiology procedures can vary by more than an order of magnitude for the same type of procedure and for similar patient doses. There is particular concern regarding occupational dose to the lens of the eye. This document provides recommendations for occupational radiation protection for physicians and other staff in the interventional suite.

In this analysis, we investigated the 12-month clinical outcomes in patients treated with an ECS for a bifurcation lesion.
Methods: The worldwide, prospective, nonrandomized e-HEALING registry aimed to enroll 5000 patients treated for coronary artery disease with one or more ECS between October 2005 and October 2007.
Objective: Interleukin-6 (IL6; proinflammatory marker), von Willebrand Factor (vWF; endothelial dysfunction marker) and P-selectin (platelet activation marker), may play important roles in defining the pathogenesis of vulnerable plaques in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). This study aims to investigate the expression and relationship of these markers in early phases of ACS in a young and multiethnic Malaysian population.
Design: Peripheral whole blood mRNA, and serum levels of IL6, vWF and P-selectin were measured in 22 patients with ACS, and in 28 controls with angiographically significant coronary artery disease without previous ACS events.
Background: There is scarce or no data on prevalence and presentation of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) among women of reproductive age. Furthermore, whether women of reproductive age presenting with ACS have the same risk factors as men and older women is not known.
Objective: To analyze factors associated with ACS in women of reproductive age in comparison with older women and men of a similar age group.
Background: Dronedarone restores sinus rhythm and reduces hospitalization or death in intermittent atrial fibrillation. It also lowers heart rate and blood pressure and has antiadrenergic and potential ventricular antiarrhythmic effects. We hypothesized that dronedarone would reduce major vascular events in high-risk permanent atrial fibrillation.

Aims: Coronary lesions in diabetics (DM) are associated with a high recurrence following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), even after drug-eluting stent (DES) deployment. Encouraging clinical data of the drug-eluting balloon catheter (DEB) SeQuent Please warrant its investigation in these patients.
Methods And Results: Eighty-four diabetic patients (60.
Introduction: The Malaysian National Cardiovascular Disease Database (NCVD) team presents Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Registry report for the year 2007 to 2009. It provides comprehensive information regarding practice and outcome of PCI in Malaysia.
Methodology: It was a voluntary, multi-centered, observational, cohort study and included patients of 18 years or above who underwent PCI at eleven participating centers in Malaysia from the year 2007 to 2009.
Background: We evaluated the Genous™ Bio-engineered R stent™ in elderly patients undergoing non-urgent percutaneous coronary intervention. The elderly have an increased risk of (temporary) discontinuation of clopidogrel, which is associated with a higher risk of developing stent thrombosis (ST).
Methods And Results: In the e-HEALING registry, 2,651 patients were <65, 1,403 were 65-74 and 869 were ≥ 75 years old.
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend the use of bare-metal stents (BMS) in non-complex lesions with a low risk of restenosis (diameter ≥3 mm and lesion length ≤15 mm) and the use of drug-eluting stents (DES) in more complex lesions with a high risk of restenosis (diameter <3.0 mm or lesion length >15 mm). However, the guidelines were created based on studies evaluating BMS and DES only.
