Objetive: To assess direct medical costs, outof-pocket expenses, and indirect costs in cases of hospitalizations for acute diarrhea among children <5 years of age at Hospital de Niños "Héctor Quintana" in the province of Jujuy during the period of rotavirus circulation in the Northwest region of Argentina.
Methods: Cross-sectional study on diseaserelated costs. All children <5 years of age, hospitalized with the diagnosis of acute diarrhea and dehydration during the period of rotavirus circulation between May 1st and October 31st of 2013, were included.
For over a century the social work profession has had a dual purpose, to promote both human well-being and social justice, but we have not found research that explores how social workers understand and work toward both purposes across multiple practice roles and settings. Authors of this article conducted qualitative research to examine how 18 social workers in various roles and settings understand and implement both purposes in their practice. Instead of a dual purpose, participants described a unifying purpose: a "just sense of well-being" that transcends role and setting.

We hypothesized that these patients show genomic instability as measured by increased radiosensitivity to the induction of genetic damage. The background levels of genetic damage and the net genetic damage after in vitro irradiation with 0.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFChronic renal failure (CRF) patients are considered to present genomic instability and, as a consequence, elevated levels of genetic damage. An open question is whether this damage is related to the stage of the pathology. To determine the background levels of genetic damage, a large population of 258 Caucasian adults (201 CRF patients and 57 controls) was analysed using the micronucleus (MN) assay.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Chronic renal failure (CRF) patients present a high incidence of cardiovascular pathologies and cancer. This has been attributed to the existence of genomic instability in these patients, and consequently they should present elevated levels of genetic damage.
Methods: To determine the background levels of genetic damage and its specific levels of oxidative damage, a large population of 253 CRF patients (77 in dialysis) was analysed using the comet assay.
Objective: To describe the patterns of antimicrobial resistance of organisms isolated from urine cultures at a teaching oncological hospital for adult patients.
Material And Methods: All strains obtained from urine cultures from 1998 to 2005 were included. Mean susceptibilities were obtained for each antimicrobial tested; nosocomial and community-acquired isolates were analyzed separately.
The introduction of low-cost competitive antiseptic products may offer savings, but, unfortunately, their quality control is poor in many developing countries. The use of a new brand of idopovidone solution, used routinely for catheter insertion-site cleaning, was associated with a 55% increase in catheter insertion-site infection per 100 active catheters, returning to usual after the product was recalled. The new brand of iodopovidone solution had less free iodine (.
