Methods: We examined episodic memory and working memory through computerized tasks performed by a lifespan sample of 1554 healthy adults.
Objective: To identify the nutrients that influence the performance of working memory, which is greatly affected as age progresses.
Method: A total of 1646 healthy adults between 21 and 80 years old participated in the study. The daily consumption of 64 nutrients was examined using a food frequency questionnaire that assessed food intake during the previous year.
The aim of the study was to identify nutrients that have the ability to impact brain functioning and, as a consequence, influence episodic memory. In particular, we examined recollection, the ability to recall details of previous experiences, which is the episodic memory process most affected as age advances. Background: The mechanisms of particulate matter (PM)-induced health effects are believed to involve inflammation and oxidative stress. Increased intake of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) appears to have anti-inflammatory effects.
Objective: As part of a trial to evaluate whether n-3 PUFA supplementation could protect against the cardiac alterations linked to PM exposure, we measured biomarkers of response to oxidative stimuli [copper/zinc (Cu/Zn) superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, lipoperoxidation (LPO) products, and reduced glutathione (GSH)] and evaluated the impact of supplementation on plasma levels.

We hypothesized that prenatal lead exposure would have a more powerful and lasting impact on child development than postnatal exposure.
Design: We used generalized linear mixed models with random intercept and slope to analyze the pattern of lead effect of the cohort from pregnancy through 10 years of age on child IQ from 6 to 10 years.
Background: Data on young people's knowledge about cancer prevention are not currently available for many populations, including Mexican young people, although cancer is the second most common cause of death among the Mexican population.
Methods: A questionnaire was applied to 13,293 public school students aged 11-24 years in Morelos, Mexico. A knowledge-based scale was constructed from survey answers about risk factors for cancer.
The objective of the study was to describe the clinical, epidemiological profile and conditional incubation period in a group of transfusion-associated HIV-infected (TAHI) patients seen in five national tertiary care centres in Mexico from 1983 to April 1998. Date of transfusions, AIDS diagnoses, opportunistic infections and malignancies were collected. The incubation period was estimated through a non-parametric conditional analysis.
