Adherence to antiretroviral treatment and quality of life among transgender women living with HIV/AIDS in São Paulo, Brazil.

This study focused on factors associated with antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence and quality of life among transgenderwomen in Sao Paulo, Brazil, using univariable and adjusted analysis. Adherence was evaluated with a self-report tool and with HIV viral load (VL) measurement. PROQOL-HIV was used to assess quality of life.

Syndemics among individuals enrolled in the PrEP Brasil Study.

Background: Concurrent psychosocial problems may synergistically increase the risk of HIV infection (syndemics), representing a challenge for prevention. We aimed to evaluate the prevalence and associated factors of syndemics among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) enrolled in the Brazilian pre-exposure prophylaxis demonstration study (PrEP Brasil Study).

Antiretroviral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is recommended to prevent HIV infection among high-risk men who have sex with men (MSM) though not available in Brazil where the HIV epidemic persists unabated in this group. This cross-sectional study describes PrEP awareness and willingness and associated factors among MSM and transvestite/transgender women (trans women) pre-screened for the PrEP Brasil study. Awareness was reported by 61.
