[Sedentarism and physical fitness in postmenopausal women].

Introduction: The aging process is accompanied by several changes, such as a decrease in physical fitness.

Aims: To establish the relationship between a sedentary behavior (sit ≥4 hours/day) and physical fitness in 457 women aged 65 years or older.

Methods: Physical fitness was evaluated by 8 adapted tests from "Senior Fitness Test" and "Eurofit Testing Battery".

Effects of a short-term whole body vibration intervention on bone mass and structure in elderly people.

Objectives: We aimed to clarify whether a short-term whole body vibration training has a beneficial effect on bone mass and structure in elderly men and women.

Design: Randomised controlled trial.

Methods: A total of 49 non-institutionalised elderly (20 men and 29 women) volunteered to participate in the study.

The steroid hormone aldosterone enhances transepithelial Na(+) reabsorption in tight epithelia and is crucial to achieve extracellular volume homeostasis and control of blood pressure. One of the main transport pathways regulated by aldosterone involves the epithelial Na(+) channel (ENaC), which constitutes the rate-limiting step of Na(+) reabsorption in parts of the distal nephron and the collecting duct, the distal colon, and sweat and salivary glands. Although these epithelial tissues share the same receptor for aldosterone (mineralocorticoid receptor, MR), and the same transport system (ENaC), it has become clear that the molecular mechanisms involved in the modulation of channel activity are tissue-specific.

Differences in the peripheral immune response between lambs and adult ewes experimentally infected with Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis.

The peripheral immune response, and its relationship with the outcome of the infection according to the age of the animal, has been investigated in young lambs and adult ewes experimentally infected with two different doses of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (Map). Sixteen 1.5-month-old lambs out of 24 and 23 adult ewes out of 30 were orally challenged with an ovine Map field isolate.

[Long-term follow-up of patients with gastric antral vascular ectasia treated with argon plasma coagulation].

Background And Objective: Due to its easy use and low complication rates, argon plasma coagulation (APC) it is most common method of endoscopic treatment for gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE). We analyze both the long term effectiveness of APC for the treatment of GAVE and its side effects.

Material And Methods: A retrospective review of GAVE patients treated with APC and followed up for a minimum of 24 months was done.

Consistency of food intake over four eating sessions in the laboratory.

Objective: The aim of this study was to test the consistency (repeatability) of laboratory measures of food intake, including eating microstructure (cumulative food intake curves), in non-obese humans across four eating sessions, each separated by 1 week. A secondary aim was to test the effect of dietary restraint on the food intake of female participants.

Methods: Mixed model analyses were used to compare average food intake across sessions, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were employed to compare within subject variability to total variance.
