Objective: To share the implementation of the Center for Documentation, Information, History and Memory of Nursing in Ceará - NUDIHMEn and its achievements in caring for, producing and preserving the history and the memory of Nursing in Ceará.

Method: It is an experience report regarding the work carried out in NUDIHMEN from 2009 to 2017.

Results: The NUDIHMEn holds a database of 1,454 newspaper articles, mapped data of 35 manuscript volumes of the Ecclesiastical History of Ceará about Nursing precursors, in addition to 23 minutes books from the Fortaleza Santa Casa (1879 to 1970), documentation belonging to the São Vicente de Paulo Nursing School, 8 scanned minutes books from the UECE Nursing Course, among other research resources.

Nursing education and nurses' articulation with the working market are guided on the premise that the quality of nursing service is related to training workers to be reflexive subjects. The main object of the study was to understand nursing education based on the current political pedagogical projects (PPPs) of nursing courses and, more specifically, to verify with coordinators and/or former-coordinators of the referred nursing courses the conception, construction and evaluation of the PPPs and the inclusion of the reflective subject as a proposition when developing the PPPs. An analysis was performed on the PPP of nursing courses of the State (UECE) and Federal (UFC) Universities of Ceará, and interviews were performed with nine coordinators and/or former-coordinators of those courses.

The investigation has as objectives to understand the new scenarios of the nurse's formation in the teaching institutions. The courses of two universities of the State of Ceará were analyzed. The data were picked up of reports in normative and curricular documents, and you interview with the coordinators of the courses.

This study reflects on and proposes to rescue the history of nursing school in Ceará, covering the period between 1942 (implementation of the first emergency-room nursing course in the state) and 1956. Data were collected from written documents, school records covering four classes and interviews with former students. The study is intended to make nursing professionals aware of the importance of a strong commitment to the history, memory and further development of the profession.

The present study demonstrates the lack or insufficiency of historical records regarding the nursing profession in Ceará in the hope of expanding awareness among professionals of the need to rescue and preserve the history and memory of that category. As an additional means to do so, it suggests establishing a nursing academy in Ceará committed to the memory, present needs and future development of the profession.
