New sex-determination system in the genus Panstrongylus (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) revealed by chromosomal analysis of Panstrongylus lutzi.

Background: Panstrongylus lutzi (Neiva & Pinto, 1923) is a triatomine species native to Caatinga habitats in north-eastern Brazil. It is considered an important vector of Chagas disease in this region, presenting high rates of natural infection with Trypanosoma cruzi Chagas, 1909, and readily invading houses by flight. [An integrative review of drug utilization by the elderly in primary health care].

Objective: To identify knowledge produced about drug utilization by the elderly in the primary health care context from 2006 to 2014.

Method: An integrative review of the PubMed, LILACS, BDENF, and SCOPUS databases, including qualitative research papers in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. It excluded papers with insufficient information regarding the methodological description.

Chirality dependence of the absorption cross section of carbon nanotubes.

The variation of the optical absorption of carbon nanotubes with their geometry has been a long-standing question at the heart of both metrological and applicative issues, in particular because optical spectroscopy is one of the primary tools for the assessment of the chiral species abundance of samples. Here, we tackle the chirality dependence of the optical absorption with an original method involving ultraefficient energy transfer in porphyrin-nanotube compounds that allows uniform photoexcitation of all chiral species. We measure the absolute absorption cross section of a wide range of semiconducting nanotubes at their S22 transition and show that it varies by up to a factor of 2.

[Risk and vulnerability in the practice of professional healthcare].

The purpose of this study is to analyze the risks and vulnerability found in professional healthcare and the safe practices adopted based on academic research in the field of healthcare and nursing, by means of an integrative review. The articles were found in the LILACS and SCIELO databases,from the years 2005-2010, in a search for the descriptors vulnerability, risk, and occupational and personal health risks, establishing a sample of 21 articles. In basic healthcare, risks and vulnerabilities are related to the lack of resources needed for work, physical violence and emotional strain.

Luminescence properties of individual empty and water-filled single-walled carbon nanotubes.

The influence of water filling on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of SWCNTs is studied by ensemble and single-molecule PL spectroscopy. Red-shifted PL and PL excitation spectra are observed upon water filling for 16 chiralities and can be used to unambiguously distinguish empty SWCNTs from filled ones. The effect of water filling on the optical transitions is well-reproduced by a continuum dielectric constant model previously developed to describe the influence of the nanotube outer environment.

All-optical trion generation in single-walled carbon nanotubes.

We present evidence of all-optical trion generation and emission in pristine single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). Luminescence spectra, recorded on individual SWCNTs over a large cw excitation intensity range, show trion emission peaks redshifted with respect to the bright exciton peak. Clear chirality dependence is observed for 22 separate SWCNT species, allowing for determination of electron-hole exchange interaction and trion binding energy contributions.

[Physical disability in the elderly and accessibility to primary health care: integrative literature review].

This is an integrative literature review of studies on physically disabled elder's access to primary health care, published between 1998 and 2008. The research was performed in: databases, virtual documents from the Health Ministry Library (Brazil), the catalogs of the Nursing Research and Study Center (CEPEN), the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEn), and through e-mail consultation of experts. Sixty studies were selected and subjected to thematic analysis.

[Urinary incontinence and aging: impact on daily basis and on the quality of life].

Human aging is accompanied by worn out of the physical functions of body and mind as well as a decrease in physiological response to the environment. Consequently these change the quality of life for those going through the aging process, especially regarding independence and autonomy. Among these common aging changes, there is the urinary incontinence having multiple etiologies with great therapeutic complexity, which creates a huge impact on the life quality of these people.

[Dialectics for humanized care in ICU's: contradictions between professional nursing discourse and practice].

This study attempts to unveil contradictions in humanized nursing care in ICUs. It is a qualitative, dialectic-based study involving 7 nurses, 4 family members and one patient of the Adult ICU of the Hospital of the Federal Universityof Santa Catarina. Participatory observation and semi-structured interviews were applied to collect the data.

[Teaching apprenticeship in psychiatric nursing: an experience during the postgraduate period].

I present my experience related to an internship on teaching upon developing activities in the discipline of Psychiatric Nursing II, during the Nursing graduation at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in the first semester of 2004. It is a theoretical-practical subject, divided into two blocks. The internships take place in a psychiatric hospital and in the community through domicile visits.

Expression, purification, and characterization of rat protein tyrosine phosphatase eta catalytic domain.

Receptor-like protein tyrosine phosphatases generally contain one or two conserved intracellular catalytic domains with a conserved sequence motif ([I/V]HCXAGXXR[S/T]G), a single transmembrane domain, and an external highly variable part. Here, we describe cloning of the intracellular catalytic domain of the rat protein tyrosine phosphatase eta (rPTPetaCD) into pET28a(+) vector, its expression in Escherichia coli, purification and initial characterization. The purification of His6-tagged rPTPetaCD to near homogeneity was achieved by a combination of affinity and size exclusion chromatography.

Phylogenetic relationships within the oliveirai complex (Hemiptera:Reduviidae:Triatominae).

The oliveirai complex is actually composed of nine related species of Triatominae that occur in the Pantanal ecosystem of Mato Grosso, Brazil. In order to confirm their specific status and infer their phylogenetic relationships, we performed a genetic and morphometric comparison concerning seven of the nine species of the complex. Isoenzyme analysis provided broadly similar phylogenetic information to that derived from discriminant analysis of size-free variables.
