Saliency-Enhanced Content-Based Image Retrieval for Diagnosis Support in Dermatology Consultation: Reader Study.

Background: Previous research studies have demonstrated that medical content image retrieval can play an important role by assisting dermatologists in skin lesion diagnosis. However, current state-of-the-art approaches have not been adopted in routine consultation, partly due to the lack of interpretability limiting trust by clinical users.

Objective: This study developed a new image retrieval architecture for polarized or dermoscopic imaging guided by interpretable saliency maps.

Does the distribution pattern of brain metastases during BRAF inhibitor therapy reflect phenotype switching?

Brain metastases (brain mets) are frequent in metastatic melanoma patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the morphology and progression pattern of brain mets in melanoma patients treated with BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi) compared with patients who did not receive targeted therapy (BRAFi group and control group). The number and size of brain mets were compared between a baseline and a comparative MRI at progression.

Transplantation and surgical strategies in patients with neuroendocrine liver metastases: protocol of four systematic reviews.

Background: Hepatic metastases of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are considered a major prognostic factor associated with significantly reduced survival compared to patients without liver metastases. Several surgical and nonsurgical strategies are present to treat resectable and nonresectable liver metastases, some of which have the potential to cure liver mestatases.

Objective: The aims of the four systematic reviews presented in the paper are to determine the effectiveness of liver resection versus nonsurgical treatment of patients with NET liver metastases, to investigate the impact of neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment options on the tumor-free survival, to assess the role of liver transplantation in patients presenting with unresectable bilateral hepatic metastases, and to evaluate the role of primary tumor resection in presence of unresectable liver metastases.
