The kinematic assessment of the upper limbs in breast cancer (BC) survivors is one of the most common procedures to determine the recovery process after BC surgery. However, the methodology used is heterogeneous, finding various evaluation methods, which makes it difficult to compare results between studies. The objective of this review was to identify the technical features of the kinematic evaluation methods used in patients with mastectomy for BC.

Article Synopsis
  • After mastectomy, women may experience changes in shoulder movement and mobility; this research aimed to assess these changes in the glenohumeral joint in women before and after surgery.
  • The study involved 15 Mexican women who underwent a detailed kinematic analysis using motion capture technology to evaluate arm movements 15 days before and 60 days after mastectomy.
  • Results showed no significant differences in shoulder movement range post-surgery, but those who received chemotherapy beforehand had a lower range of motion, highlighting the importance of early physical rehabilitation for these patients.
