The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) has prohibited ships using of HFO in ports. For this reason, during in port operations, different strategies must be adopted, based on the use of cleaner fuels or on the transition towards marine electrical technologies. Osteopenia is frequently observed in patients with iron overload, especially in those with HFE-dependent hereditary hemochromatosis (HH). Interestingly, not all mouse models of HH show bone loss, suggesting that iron overload alone may not suffice to induce bone loss. In this study, the bone phenotypes of Hjv and hepatocyte-specific Alk2- and Alk3-deficient mice as additional mouse models of HH were investigated to further clarify, how high iron levels lead to bone loss and which signaling mechanisms are operational.

Even though agriculture already spread into Eurasia during the Neolithic, the transition between the Copper Age and the Bronze Age was the time where Italian communities tuned horticultural techniques to foster the soil productivity. Lung-protective strategies using low Vt and moderate positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) are considered best practice in critical care, but interventional trials have never been conducted in patients with acute brain injuries because of concerns about carbon dioxide control and the effect of PEEP on cerebral hemodynamics. To test the hypothesis that ventilation with lower VT and higher PEEP compared to conventional ventilation would improve clinical outcomes in patients with acute brain injury. In this multicenter, open-label, controlled clinical trial, 190 adult patients with acute brain injury were assigned to receive either a lung-protective or a conventional ventilatory strategy.

The Activin A Receptor type I (ALK2) is a critical component of BMP-SMAD signaling that, in the presence of ligands, phosphorylates cytosolic SMAD1/5/8 and modulates important biological processes, including bone formation and iron metabolism. In hepatocytes, the BMP-SMAD pathway controls the expression of , the liver peptide hormone that regulates body iron homeostasis via the BMP receptors ALK2 and ALK3, and the hemochromatosis proteins. A combination of streamlined genetics, experimental tractability and relative morphological simplicity compared to vascular plants makes the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha an ideal model system for studying many aspects of plant biology. Here we describe a transformation vector combining a constitutive fluorescent membrane marker with a nuclear marker that is regulated by nearby enhancer elements and use this to produce a library of enhancer trap lines for Marchantia. Screening gemmae from these lines allowed the identification and characterization of novel marker lines, including markers for rhizoids and oil cells.

Using the theoretical perspective of "social participation" as considered in the Human Development-Disability Creation Process, this article examines certain obstacles and facilitators to sustainable access to work among young French adults with cystic fibrosis. The expression of the iron regulatory hormone hepcidin in hepatocytes is regulated by the BMP-SMAD pathway through the type I receptors ALK2 and ALK3, the type II receptors ACVR2A and BMPR2, and the ligands BMP2 and BMP6. We previously identified the immunophilin FKBP12 as a new hepcidin inhibitor that acts by blocking ALK2.
