Multi-channel nerve cuff electrode arrays can provide sensory feedback to prosthesis users. To develop efficacious stimulation protocols, an understanding of the impact that spatio-temporal patterned stimulation can have on the response of sensory fibers is crucial. We used experimental and modelling methods to investigate the response of nerve fibers to paired-pulse stimulation.

Effects of Bisphenol A on redox balance in red blood and sperm cells and spermatic quality in zebrafish Danio rerio.

Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a potential endocrine disruptor besides being associated with oxidative damage in several vertebrate classes. In the present study we investigated oxidative effects in erythrocytes and sperm cells as well as spermatic quality in Danio rerio exposed to 14 days at BPA concentrations of 2, 10 and 100 μg/L. Organelles structure, reactive species of oxygen (ROS) and lipoperoxidation (LPO) on erythrocytes and sperm cells were measured by flow cytometry and spermatic parameters were analyzed by the computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) system.

Purpose: Recent studies suggest that body mass index is not a reliable enough measurement for body composition in individuals, particularly in older and younger people. However, most research on body image has used the body mass index (BMI) as a physiological predictor of body satisfaction, particularly in children. The aim of this study was to investigate whether body composition is a better predictor of body size dissatisfaction in children than BMI.

Background: Zika virus (ZIKV) infection can cause severe birth defects in newborns with no effective currently available treatment. Adoptive transfer of virus-specific T cells has proven to be safe and effective for the prevention or treatment of many viral infections, and could represent a novel treatment approach for patients with ZIKV infection. However, extending this strategy to the ZIKV setting has been hampered by limited data on immunogenic T-cell antigens within ZIKV.

Here we sought to define the repertoire of genetic alterations of hyalinizing trabecular tumors, and whether PAX8-GLIS3 fusions are pathognomonic for hyalinizing trabecular tumors. Objective:  Several factors might affect the health and the quality of life of women who had a severe maternal morbidity (SMM) or a maternal near-miss (MNM) episode. The objective of the present study was to explore the perspectives of the professionals on the repercussions of SMM or of MNM after interviewing women who survived such episodes.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to estimate the need for population-level services for alcohol and other drug abuse in support of local planning.

Method: Data were drawn from a subsample of 2,942 interviewees from the São Paulo Megacity Study, which evaluated mental health in the general population (18 years and older) of residents in the São Paulo metropolitan area. This population was classified into five hierarchical categories of severity, making it possible to obtain estimates of need for services, combining evaluation criteria regarding drug and alcohol use and general and mental health comorbidities over the last 12 months.
