Venous Ulcers (VU) are a serious health problem that affect the Quality of Life (QoL). They are evaluated by many different scales in the literature. We aimed to analyze the correlation between the Medical Outcomes Short-Form Health QoL (SF-36) and Charing Cross Venous Ulcer Questionnaire (CCVUQ) scales.

Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) is effective in improving postural stability and balance in different clinical populations. However, there is no evidence of these effects in soccer players. A single-blind, two-arm (1:1), randomized, placebo-controlled pilot study on 14 soccer players was performed with the main aim of assessing the effect of IMT on static balance, and secondarily, of examining changes in the respiratory muscle function.

Aims And Objectives: The aim of this study is to explore the perceptions of parents of children with physical disabilities concerning the quality of their interaction with health professionals in early intervention programs.

Background: Despite the consensus on the need for Patient and Family-Centered Care, there are still difficulties when executing such care. The quality of interaction among patients, families, and professionals is essential to facilitate the implementation of the programs.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a lateral curvature of the spine with a Cobb angle of at least 10° with an unknown etiology. It is recognized that AIS may affect respiratory function. This study aims to describe and compare respiratory function in a case series of patients with scoliosis who underwent different types of therapeutic management: no intervention, orthotic brace, and global postural reeducation (GPR).

Article Synopsis
  • Respiratory muscle training can enhance strength and decrease fatigue in high-intensity exercises, but its effects on soccer players specifically are not well-understood.
  • A systematic review analyzed nine studies that evaluated the impact of this training on soccer players’ respiratory and athletic performance.
  • The findings showed significant improvements in maximum inspiratory buccal pressure and maximum oxygen consumption, although the evidence quality was rated as low to very low.

The important role of postural stability in exercise performance has been determined by several authors. Despite this, few studies have analyzed the relationship between respiratory muscles' strength and postural stability in athletes. For this reason, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between postural stability and respiratory muscles' function in male soccer players.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a lateral curvature of the spine of at least 10° Cobb's angle of unknown etiology. Some studies have found that patients with AIS have a Visual Verticality (VV) perception similar to healthy controls. This study aimed to analyze VV perception and postural balance differences in patients with AIS depending on the management, either based on observation or conservative treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to understand how patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) transition between low and non-low physical activity states over two years, identifying predictors for these transitions.
  • Out of 137 patients monitored, 27% had low physical activity at the start, with notable annual transitions; 17.5% of those initially active fell into low activity, while 34.3% of the initially low activity group improved.
  • Key predictors for moving to a new state of low physical activity included experiencing significant shortness of breath (dyspnea) and performing poorly on a specific physical test (five sit-to-stand test).

Some respiratory muscles work in synergy with the pelvic floor (PF). Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is characterized by weak PF muscles and has been associated with worse pulmonary ventilation function in women. To date no studies have investigated the association between respiratory muscle strength and POP.

Background: The physical frailty status affects the health status of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The objective was to determine if the individual physical frailty characteristics have a differential impact on the CAT score.

Methods: This observational study included 137 patients with stable COPD.

Identifying those patients who underperform in the 6-minute walk test (6MWT <350 m), and the reasons for their poor performance, is a major concern in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. To explore the accuracy and relevance of the 4-m gait-speed (4MGS) test, and the 5-repetition sit-to-stand (5STS) test, as diagnostic markers, and clinical determinants, of poor performance in the 6MWT.We recruited 137 patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to participate in our cross-sectional study.
