Article Synopsis
  • Major depressive disorder (MDD) impacts over 300 million people worldwide and has various causes, with the CYP2C19 enzyme affecting how some antidepressants are metabolized.
  • A systematic review followed specific protocols and found only nine relevant studies from 240 articles that met inclusion criteria regarding gene variant frequencies and their effects on MDD.
  • While some genetic variants showed associations with MDD symptoms and treatment responses, results were inconsistent, indicating a need for more research to better understand these genetic influences on depression and improve treatment options.

A novel sanitizer tablet containing clove essential oil (CO) microemulsion was developed. A preformulation study using nuclear magnetic resonance and thermal analyses showed component compatibility. The main components of the samples remained intact despite a color change, probably due to a strong acid-base interaction between eugenol and diethanolamine.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of nanoemulsions of essential oil. The volatile compounds of the essential oil were identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The properties of the nanoemulsions (droplet size, polydispersity index, pH, and electrical conductivity) were determined.

Introduction: Research addressing the costs of Medication errors (MEs) is still scarce despite issues related to patient safety having significant economic and health impacts, making it imperative to analyze the costs and adverse events related to MEs for a better patient, professional, and institutional safety.

Aim: To identify the number of medication errors and verify whether this number was associated with increased hospitalization costs for patients in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Method: This retrospective cross-sectional cohort study evaluated secondary data from patients' electronic medical records to compile variables, create a model, and survey hospitalization costs.

Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine cancer in the world. Noting that the gene polymorphism interferes with nitric oxide production, this study aims to identify and analyze the gene polymorphism in the intron 4 region in patients with papillary thyroid cancer. A case-control study was conducted with 31 papillary thyroid cancer patients of both genders who underwent thyroidectomy and treatment with sodium iodide radiopharmaceutical (131I) compared with 81 control patients.
