Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the mechanical properties of Reciproc, Reciproc Blue, One RECI, and R-Motion, specifically focusing on their flexibility and buckling resistance; and to assess their torsional fatigue behavior under two different reciprocation angles (150°/30° or 70°/30°).

Methods: A total of 160 instruments (40 per brand) were tested. Flexion and buckling tests were conducted using a Universal testing machine (DL 200MF) was used.

Background: To eliminate malaria by 2035, Brazil must address Plasmodium vivax. Previously, first-line treatment was chloroquine plus 7-day primaquine (PQ) without glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency testing. In 2021, point-of-care quantitative G6PD testing and single-dose tafenoquine (TQ) were piloted in two municipalities.

Aims: In this study we report the use of two novel lytic polyvalent phages as a cocktail in in planta assays and its efficacy in the control of bacterial halo blight (BHB) caused by Pseudomonas coronafaciens pv. garcae (Pcg) in coffee plants.

Methods And Results: Phages were isolated from samples of coffee plant leaves collected at two different locations in Brazil.

Traditionally, control of coffee plant bacterial halo blight (BHB) caused by the phytopathogen Pseudomonas coronafaciens pv. garcae (Pcg) involves frequent spraying of coffee plantations with non-environmentally friendly and potentially bacterial resistance-promoting copper products or with kasugamycin hydrochloride. In this study we report a leap forward in the quest for a new ecofriendly approach, characterizing (both physicochemically and biologically) and testing both in vitro and ex vivo a new lytic phage for Pcg.

This study assessed the impact of pre-enlarging the root canal using a size 25 K-file on the fracture incidence of three reciprocating instruments after multiple uses. After a glide path performed with a size 15 K-file, the instruments (Reciproc R25, Reciproc Blue R25, and WaveOne Gold Primary) were initially used in 936 root canals. Then, for the second and third uses (933 and 927, respectively), a pre-enlargement using a size 25 K-file at the working length was done.

Background: Pertussis continues to pose a significant threat despite the availability of effective vaccines. The challenge lies in the vulnerability of infants who have not yet completed their vaccination schedule and in adolescents and adults becoming potential disease carriers.

Methods: We evaluated the seroprevalence of pertussis immunity in a cohort of 1,500 healthy Brazilian volunteers.

Background And Objectives: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is an independent and strong marker of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The Princeton Consensus aimed to evaluate and manage cardiovascular risk in men with ED and no known cardiovascular disease, focusing on identifying those requiring additional cardiologic work-up. It has recently been updated to the American population demographics, but European recommendations are needed.

This article discusses the experience of a permanent health education initiative focused on institutional racism with health professionals from the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) holding management positions in a municipality in the interior of Bahia, in Northeastern Brazil. A workshop was held in September 2022, based on a problematizing methodology called the Maguerez Arc, conducted by residents of the Multiprofessional Family Health Program. Ten managers participated in the workshop, most of whom were women.

Article Synopsis
  • Macrophages play a crucial role in regulating the immune response both in normal conditions and during inflammation, and sitagliptin, a diabetes drug, has shown potential anti-inflammatory effects.
  • This study investigated how sitagliptin affects macrophage polarization, finding that it enhances the M2 macrophage phenotype while reducing pro-inflammatory markers like TNF-α.
  • Additionally, sitagliptin treatment impacted mitochondrial function in M2 macrophages, leading to lower energy production and reduced ability to engulf particles.

Dark Septate Endophytic (DSE) fungi can benefit plants by optimizing nutrient uptake, biosynthesis of phytohormones-like compounds, and stress relief such as toxic metals. The objective was to characterize in vitro 57 strains of the DSE Periconia macrospinosa isolated from sugarcane roots, indicating the most promising in solubilizing phosphate sources, growing in different metal and vinasse contents, and producing molecules related to indoleacetic acid (IAA). The strains were from the Embrapa Agrobiology Fungi Collection.

The study assessed the Global Quality Score (GQS) and informational engagement of users with YouTube videos on the Brazilian public health system (SUS). The YouTube video search tool was used with the Portuguese keywords 'unified health system' and 'SUS'. The first 100 videos returned in the search were studied, using the GQS to measure their educational value, usefulness, and information quality.

This study compared the effects of different final irrigation protocols on the mechanical properties and structural integrity of root dentine. One-hundred eight teeth were instrumented and irrigated with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) using conventional irrigation (CI). Teeth were distributed into four groups based on final irrigation protocols: Control Group (CG): 17%EDTA/CI + H2O; G1: 2.

Objectives: Disseminated histoplasmosis (DH) is a lethal fungal disease in patients living with HIV in endemic regions of the world. Diagnosis relies mainly on microscopy, culture and antigen detection. Our goal was to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic role of our reverse transcriptase quantitative PCR (RTqPCR) in blood specimens allowing to quantify the whole nucleic acids (WNA) load.

The combination of transcriptional profiling and genotype data analyses enables the identification of genetic variants that may affect gene expression (eQTL - expression quantitative trait loci). This study aimed to identify cis-eQTL in Nellore cattle muscle tissue and determine their biological processes related to the immune system and involved eGenes. Genotypic data (SNP-Chip) and gene expression data (RNA-Seq) from a commercial population of 80 Nellore animals were evaluated.

The development of the phage display technique has brought practicality and speed when selecting high-affinity molecules. It is used to obtain single-chain variable fragments (scFvs) and has revolutionized several branches of research and industry. These are developed from gene libraries that differ in their construction strategies, which causes a diversity of sequences, specificity and binding strength of the projected molecule to its antigen.

Background Dietary antioxidant Capacity (DaC) has been used as a tool for predicting plasma and dietary antioxidant concentrations. However, the DaC association with oxidative stress (OS) and body composition parameters is an unexplored area, mainly in physically active individuals. Given the potential for increased OS in physically active individuals, it becomes crucial to investigate this association.
