The coronary artery calcium score and left atrial volume have been shown to predict the incidence of acute myocardial infarction and death from cardiovascular disease in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. However, the association between these factors has not been well-established. This cross-sectional, prospective, single-center study was conducted on patients undergoing outpatient peritoneal dialysis, who were followed up at a university hospital between March 2018 and August 2019.

Objective: We evaluated the extent to which frailty mediated the association between age, poor functional outcomes, and mortality after acute ischemic stroke when patients were treated with brain reperfusion (thrombolytic therapy and/or thrombectomy).

Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke who had undergone intravenous cerebral reperfusion therapy and/or mechanical thrombectomy. We created a mediation model by analyzing the direct natural effect of an mRS score > 2 and death on age-mediated frailty according to the Frailty Index.

The objective of this study was to assess the value of the abnormal circadian blood pressure pattern by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) to predict the onset of abnormal albuminuria in normotensive and normoalbuminuric DM patients. The participators were submitted to ABPM and followed prospectively until the onset of albuminuria or the end of follow-up. The patients with normal circadian blood pressure pattern were compared with the non-dippers in regard of the time interval free of albuminuria.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied the effects of an early exercise program on cardiac dysfunction in rats with aortic stenosis, focusing on how exercise impacts heart structure and function post-surgery.
  • The study involved different groups of rats, including a trained group, and used treadmill running for 16 weeks to assess improvements in heart health and metabolism.
  • Results showed that early exercise significantly enhanced functional capacity and reduced heart remodeling and dysfunction, while also benefiting lipid metabolism and angiogenesis in the trained aortic stenosis rats.

Aerobic exercise training (AET) has been used to manage heart disease. AET may totally or partially restore the activity and/or expression of proteins that regulate calcium (Ca) handling, optimize intracellular Ca flow, and attenuate cardiac functional impairment in failing hearts. However, the literature presents conflicting data regarding the effects of AET on Ca transit and cardiac function in rats with heart failure resulting from aortic stenosis (AoS).

Introduction: The beneficial effects of physical exercise on functional capacity and inflammatory response are well-known in cardiovascular diseases; however, studies on sickle cell disease (SCD) are limited. It was hypothesized that physical exercise may exert a favorable effect on the inflammatory response of SCD patients, contributing to an improved quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a regular physical exercise program on the anti-inflammatory responses in SCD patients.

Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is one of the principal risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease. When a hypertensive woman becomes pregnant, new hemodynamic condition is installed, with addition from chronic pressure overload to chronic volume overload. This new hemodynamic condition can provide greater myocardial hypertrophy(LVH), whose postpartum evolution has been little studied in the literature.
