Patients with metastatic breast cancer face reduced quality of life and increased mortality rates, necessitating more effective anti-cancer strategies. Building on previous research that identified metastatic-niche-specific metabolic vulnerabilities, we investigated how a ketogenic diet enhances estrogen receptor (ER)-positive liver metastatic breast cancer's response to Fulvestrant (Fulv) treatment. Using in vitro cell lines and in vivo xenograft metastasis mouse models, we examined the molecular mechanisms of combining ER targeting with a ketogenic diet.

The aim of the work was to investigate the influence of the machining parameters on the surface roughness and tool wear during slot milling of a polyurethane block (PUB). In the experiment, the influence of the cutting speed, the feed per tooth and the depth of cut on the roughness and of the milling slot surface and wear of the end mill was analyzed. A three-axis CNC milling machine Emco Concept Mill 55 was used to perform the study.

The article presents the results of research aimed at developing mathematical models for determining the components of grinding force occurring during the sharpening of the rake face of hob cutters. The development of the models was based on the results obtained during experimental tests conducted in the first stage of the research. The studies were carried out using a tool grinder and an aluminum oxide grinding wheel.

Background: Ticks (Acari: Ixodida) pose a serious medical and veterinary threat as vectors of tick-borne pathogens. The wide variety of tick repellents available on the market primarily consist of synthetic preparations that may disrupt the ecological balance and accumulate in the environment, leading to harmful effects on humans and animals. The aim of the study was to develop an ecological preparation based on natural raw materials (biopolymers) with the addition of a mixture of essential oils that act as tick repellents.

Background: The accurate diagnosis of degenerative joint diseases (DJDs) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) presents a significant clinical challenge due to their progressive nature and the complexity of associated structural changes. These conditions, characterized by cartilage degradation, subchondral bone remodeling, and eventual joint dysfunction, necessitate reliable and efficient imaging techniques for early detection and effective management. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is widely regarded as the gold standard for evaluating osseous changes in the TMJ, offering detailed visualization of bony structures.

Endocrine therapies targeting the estrogen receptor (ER/ESR1) are the cornerstone to treat ER-positive breast cancers patients, but resistance often limits their effectiveness. Notable progress has been made although the fragmented way data is reported has reduced their potential impact. Here, we introduce EstroGene2.

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), widely used in orthodontics and dentures, exhibits suboptimal mechanical properties, including flexural strength (FS), impact strength (IS), and tensile strength (TS), which are critical for ensuring durability, resistance to fracture, and overall functionality of dental appliances. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are a promising filler due to their antimicrobial properties. This pre-registered (osf.

Invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast (ILC) are typically estrogen receptor α (ER)-positive and present with biomarkers of anti-estrogen sensitive disease, yet patients with ILC face uniquely poor long-term outcomes with increased recurrence risk, suggesting endocrine response and ER function are unique in ILC. We previously found specifically in ILC cells that ER is co-regulated by the DNA repair protein Mediator of DNA Damage Checkpoint 1 (MDC1). This novel MDC1 activity, however, was associated with dysfunction in the canonical DNA repair activity of MDC1, but absent typical features of DNA repair deficiency.

The Indo-European languages are among the most widely spoken in the world, yet their early diversification remains contentious. It is widely accepted that the spread of this language family across Europe from the 5th millennium BP correlates with the expansion and diversification of steppe-related genetic ancestry from the onset of the Bronze Age. However, multiple steppe-derived populations co-existed in Europe during this period, and it remains unclear how these populations diverged and which provided the demographic channels for the ancestral forms of the Italic, Celtic, Greek, and Armenian languages.

The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in dentistry is becoming increasingly significant, particularly in diagnosis and treatment planning. This study aimed to assess the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision of AI-driven software in analyzing dental panoramic radiographs (DPRs) in patients with permanent dentition. Out of 638 DPRs, 600 fulfilled the inclusion criteria.

The histopathological assessment is critical in the comprehensive treatment process for patients diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). A detailed and precise specimen characterization is essential to facilitate effective surgeon-pathologist communication. In response to this need, a user-friendly virtual communication protocol utilizing a 3D scanner has been developed.

Posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression by miRNAs likely makes significant contributions to mRNA abundance at the embryo-maternal interface. In this study, we investigated how miR-26a-5p and miR-125b-5p contribute to molecular changes occurring in the uterine luminal epithelium, which serves as the first site of signal exchange between the mother and the developing embryo. To measure de novo protein synthesis after miRNA delivery to primary uterine luminal epithelial cells, we used pulsed stable isotope labeling by amino acids (pSILACs).

Intra-articular injections reduce pain in patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders who are unresponsive to conservative treatment. Hyaluronic acid, blood products, and medications provide rapid relief when administered this way, although their mechanisms of action remain unclear. In control groups, which are intended to be untreated, 0.

Sugar molecules play important roles as mediators of biomolecular interactions in cellular functions, disease, and infections. Molecular dynamics simulations are an indispensable tool to explore these interactions at the molecular level. The large time and length scales involved frequently necessitate the use of coarse-grained representations, which heavily depend on the parametrization of sugar-protein interactions.

Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) is a subtype of breast cancer characterized by distinct biological features, and limited glucose uptake coupled with increased reliance on amino acid and lipid metabolism. Our prior studies highlight the importance of glutamate as a key regulator of ILC tumor growth and therapeutic response. Here we examine the expression of four key proteins involved in glutamate transport and metabolism - SLC3A2, SLC7A11, GPX4, and GLUD1/2 - in a racially diverse cohort of 72 estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) ILC and 50 ER+ invasive ductal carcinoma, no special type (IDC/NST) patients with primary disease.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a glycosaminoglycan composed of D-glucuronic acid and N-acetylglucosamine with an up-to-several-million-Daltons chain-length responsible for the lubricating properties of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) synovial fluid. Arthritis results in the predominance of HA degradation over synthesis leading to temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). TMD injection treatments are divided into HA supplementation and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) inflammation suppression.

Article Synopsis
  • * The researchers examined over a thousand radiographs, identifying 35 suitable for AI assessment, which showed high sensitivity and specificity (over 85%) for detecting dental issues, but low precision overall.
  • * The findings indicate that AI performs less accurately for dental evaluations in children compared to adults, suggesting the need for improved AI software to differentiate between primary and permanent teeth in mixed dentition cases.
