To investigate whether coronary artery disease (CAD) burden is associated with plasma levels of the myocardial biomarkers Troponin I (TropI) and NT-proBNP in a large population-based sample using a cross-sectional design. Coronary computerized tomography (CT) angiography was performed in 25,859 subjects without a history of atherosclerotic disease from SCAPIS study (age 50-65, 52% women). TropI and NT-proBNP were measured in plasma.

Silicon has been shown to stimulate osteoblastic cell differentiation and function, although the effect of Si on human osteoclasts is unclear.
Aim: The present study investigated the direct effects of Si on human osteoclast differentiation, gene expression, and bone resorption.
Background: Semorinemab is a monoclonal antibody that targets the N-terminal domain of the tau protein that is in clinical development for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
Objectives: To perform model-based evaluations of the observed pharmacokinetics in serum and the total plasma tau target-engagement dynamics from clinical studies evaluating semorinemab.
Design: The observed semorinemab pharmacokinetics and plasma tau target engagement from phase 1 and 2 clinical studies were modeled using a non-linear mixed effect target-mediated drug disposition model.
Microbiota and luminal components may affect epithelial integrity and thus participate in the pathophysiology of colon cancer (CC) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Therefore, we aimed to determine the effects of fecal luminal factors derived from patients with CC and ulcerative colitis (UC) on the colonic epithelium using a standardized colon-derived two-dimensional epithelial monolayer. The complex primary human stem cell-derived intestinal epithelium model, termed RepliGut Planar, was expanded and passaged in a two-dimensional culture which underwent stimulation for 48 h with fecal supernatants (FS) from CC patients ( = 6), UC patients with active disease ( = 6), and healthy subjects (HS) ( = 6).

Methods: Using Cox regression models on 4,142,349 individuals in Sweden (mean age 27.
Preoperative radiotherapy (RT) for non-metastatic rectal cancer reduces local recurrence rates but can cause pelvic insufficiency fractures. Despite the high morbidity from RT-induced skeletal injuries, predictive and preventive measures are lacking. How these injuries are reflected by bone biomarkers are largely unknown.

Social reconstructionism represents an educational philosophy focused on alleviating pervasive inequities and improving the health of society; however, its application in PT education is not well understood. The purpose of this article is to describe the approach 3 entry-level PT programs used to manifest social reconstructionism within their curricula to foster social consciousness and strengthen moral agency.

This pest categorisation was initiated following the commodity risk assessment of artificially dwarfed plants from China consisting of (Japanese white pine) grafted on (Japanese black pine) performed by EFSA, in which was identified as a pest of possible concern. However, its identity is not firmly established due to uncertainty regarding its taxonomic relationship with (Green), a species widespread in Europe.

Here, we have connected cell models of key metabolic organs, the pancreas and liver, on a microfluidic chip to enable diabetes research in a human-based in vitro system. Aided by mechanistic mathematical modeling, we demonstrate that hyperglycemia and high cortisone concentration induce glucose dysregulation in the pancreas-liver microphysiological system (MPS), mimicking a diabetic phenotype seen in patients with glucocorticoid-induced diabetes.

Participants: ODDS includes 4 295 859 individuals, 2 165 048 men and 2 130 811 women, in Swedish cohorts and national registers with information on weight assessed once (2 555 098 individuals) or more (1 740 761 individuals), in total constituting 7 733 901 weight assessments at the age of 17-103 years in 1963-2020 (recalled weight as of 1911). Information on WC is available in 152 089 men and 212 658 women, out of whom 108 795 have repeated information on WC (in total 512 273 assessments).
The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of (Lepidoptera, Limacodidae), following the commodity risk assessment of plants grafted on from China, in which was identified as a pest of possible concern to the European Union. This species can be identified by morphological taxonomic keys and by barcoding. The adults of the overwintering generation emerge from late June to late August.

The current risk assessment focused on potential pathways for entry, the climatic conditions allowing establishment, the expected spread capacity and the impact considering a time horizon of 10 years (2023-2032). The Panel identified the import of apples, cut flowers and table grapes as the most relevant entry pathways.

Here we identify MYC target 1 (MYCT1; also known as MTLC) as a crucial human HSC regulator that moderates endocytosis and environmental sensing in HSCs. MYCT1 is selectively expressed in undifferentiated human haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and endothelial cells but becomes markedly downregulated during HSC culture.

Background: Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD) is the most common knee pain complaint among adolescents playing sports. Despite this, there remains controversy over the pathophysiology and whether specific anatomical characteristics are associated with OSD.
Purpose: This study aimed to systematically and comprehensively characterize adolescents with OSD using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compared to pain-free controls, including both tissue abnormalities that may be associated with OSD, as well as anatomical characteristics.

Purpose: To assess children's physical function and subjective knee status 1 and 3 years after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. It was hypothesised that there was no difference between the operated and normal legs in relation to physical strength and function, that there was <-2 mm side-to-side difference in knee laxity, and that the subjective knee function was better 3 years after ACL reconstruction compared to 1 year after.
Methods: Children (<16 years of age) who had an ACL reconstruction had follow-up with physical function tests (four hop tests and strength measurement in a power rig [PR]), anterior knee laxity (measured using a Rolimeter) and patient-reported outcome measures (Pedi-International Knee Documentation Committee [IKDC] and Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score [KOOS]-Child) 1 and 3 years postoperatively.
Background: There are important unmet clinical needs to develop cell enrichment technologies to enable unbiased label-free isolation of both single cell and clusters of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) manifesting heterogeneous lineage specificity. Here, we report a pilot study based on the microfluidic acoustophoresis enrichment of CTCs using the CellSearch CTC assay as a reference modality.
Methods: Acoustophoresis uses an ultrasonic standing wave field to separate cells based on biomechanical properties (size, density, and compressibility), resulting in inherently label-free and epitope-independent cell enrichment.
Despite the known link between air pollution and cause-specific mortality, its relation to chronic kidney disease (CKD)-associated mortality is understudied. Therefore, we investigated the association between long-term exposure to air pollution and CKD-related mortality in a large multicentre population-based European cohort. Cohort data were linked to local mortality registry data.
