Intact Fish Skin Graft to Treat Deep Diabetic Foot Ulcers.

Background: Diabetic foot ulcers are chronic, difficult to heal, and potentially life-threatening. Few medical devices have been studied in diabetic ulcers penetrating to bone or tendon.

Methods: We conducted an international, open-label randomized controlled trial, randomly assigning patients with diabetic ulcers penetrating to bone, joint, or tendon 1:1 to intact fish skin graft or standard wound care, with assigned treatment applied through 14 weeks.

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is most common in populations of Northern European ancestry where the F508del variant predominates. In 2020, Iceland became a member of the European Cystic Fibrosis Society Patient Registry, and we launched an epidemiological study of CF in Iceland. The study aimed to determine the prevalence and the genetic variants present in the country.

The majority of evidence concerning the prevalence, triggers, and functions of nostalgia has been amassed in samples from a handful of largely Western cultures. If nostalgia is a fundamental psychological resource, it should perform similar functions across cultures, although its operational dynamics may be shaped by culture.

Method: This study (KereFish) is part of a multi-national, multi-centre, randomised, controlled clinical investigation (Odin) with patients suffering from deep diabetic wounds, allowing peripheral artery disease as evaluated by an ankle brachial index equal or higher than 0.6.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a highly heritable common childhood-onset neurodevelopmental disorder. Some rare copy number variations (CNVs) affect multiple neurodevelopmental disorders such as intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), schizophrenia and ADHD. The aim of this study is to determine to what extent ADHD shares high risk CNV alleles with schizophrenia and ASD.

Isolation, Characterization and Biotechnological Potentials of Thraustochytrids from Icelandic Waters.

The following study reports on the first thraustochytrid isolates identified from Iceland. They were collected from three different locations off the northern coast of the country (Location A, Skagaströnd; Location B, Hveravík; and Location C, Eyjafjörður). Using 18S rDNA sequence analysis, isolates from Locations A and B were identified within the species while other isolates within the species when compared to other known strains.

Azithromycin induces epidermal differentiation and multivesicular bodies in airway epithelia.

Background: Azithromycin (Azm) is a macrolide recognized for its disease-modifying effects and reduction in exacerbation of chronic airway diseases. It is not clear whether the beneficial effects of Azm are due to its anti-microbial activity or other pharmacological actions. We have shown that Azm affects the integrity of the bronchial epithelial barrier measured by increased transepithelial electrical resistance.

Self-promoted and stereospecific formation of -glycosides.

A stereoselective and self-promoted glycosylation for the synthesis of various -glycosides and glycosyl sulfonamides from trichloroacetimidates is presented. No additional catalysts or promoters are needed in what is essentially a two-component reaction. When α-glucosyl trichloroacetimidates are employed, the reaction resulted in the stereospecific formation of the corresponding β--glucosides in high yields at ambient conditions.
