Background: There is a need for better implementation of patient-centred (PC) communication and shared decision-making (SDM) in routine cancer care.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess whether a programme to implement SDM in oncology had effects on PC communication in clinical encounters.

Design: This study constitutes a secondary analysis of data derived from an implementation trial applying a stepped wedge design that, among other strategies, incorporated training and coaching to enhance the PC communication skills of physicians.

The present work deals with the assembly of multilayers or rod-like polymers with hydrophobic side chains (called hairy rods) and their potential application as ultrathin polymer cushions for the build-up of self healing supported membranes on various solids (Si/SiO(2)-wafer, gold covered substrates). Three types of hairy rods were studied: Isopentyl cellulose (IPC), phtalocyaniatopolysiloxane with mixed alkane side chains (PCPS) and trimethylsilane cellulose (TMCS). Detailed analysis of the thickness of supported multilayers as a function of the number of deposited monolayers with ellipsometry, near infrared surface plasmon resonance (NIR-SPR), a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and reflection interference contrast microscopy (RICM), show that the basic building blocks of hairy rod multilayers are bilayers with the hydrophobic surfaces of the monolayers facing each other.

Since the discovery that EM (erythema migrans), ACA (acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans) and BL (borrelial lymphocytoma) have an infectious etiology, these syndromes have been receiving particular attention. This report describes four patients whose dermatological symptoms did not at first indicate borreliosis. In all four cases serological antibody tests proved that they were caused by Borrelia burgdorferi.
