[Stewart-Treves pseudo-syndrome caused by cutaneo-lymphatic metastases of contralateral breast carcinoma].

The pathogenesis of Stewart-Treves syndrome remains controversial: angiosarcoma or epithelial cell metastases from a mammary carcinoma? The case reported here, with clinical signs of Stewart-Treves syndrome on one side and mastectomy for carcinoma on the other side of the body, revives the debate. Case-history. The patient was an 89-year old woman whose left breast had been removed in June, 1981 for carcinoma with lymph node involvement.

Munchausen syndrome by adult proxy: a perpetrator abusing two adults.

We present a case of Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MBP) in a symbiotic relationship between a 34-year-old man and his two female partners. In the past, MBP has only been identified in mother-child relationships. The present case, however, extends the syndrome to relationships between adults as well.

An immunocytochemical study of the human odontoblast process using antibodies against tubulin, actin, and vimentin.

An immunofluorescence technique was applied at the light microscope level to human third molar coronal dentin in order to localize the intracellular components tubulin, vimentin, and actin. Third molars were split immediately upon extraction, and immersed in periodate-lysine-paraformaldehyde fixative. The crowns were demineralized, dehydrated, and wax-embedded, and 6-micron sections were prepared.

[Indications for extensive lymphadenectomy in stomach cancer].

The examination of lymph nodes of 64 preparations removed in resections of the stomach and gastrectomies associated with extensive lymphadenectomy has shown that for invasive forms of gastric cancer extensive lymphadenectomy should be fulfilled with ablation of lymph nodes adjacent to major parietal vessels: hepatic, splenic, superior mesenterial arteries, celiac trunk, aorta, inferior vena cava and portal vein.

[Extensive lymphadenectomy in gastrectomy and gastric resection in cancer].

When using routine methods of lymphadenectomy the excisable parietal groups of lymph nodes are left intact. This is considered to be an unjustified ground for refusal of a curative operation for gastric cancer Metastases to lymph nodes of these groups are frequently found in gastric cancer. The authors recommend to use extensive lymphadenectomy when the removed preparation includes the lymph nodes of parietal groups.

Cognitive impairment in patients with tardive dyskinesia.

Schizophrenic patients with (N = 17) and without (N = 14) tardive dyskinesia performed several neuropsychological tests. Most patients (88%) showed complete lack of concern or anosognosia with regard to their involuntary movement. A marginally significant difference was found in recall of pictures presented in the right hemispace.

[Early congenital syphilis: apropos of 5 cases].

Congenital syphilis has in large part disappeared in countries where antiveneral legislations and preventive measures are well developed. In France, although there is no declaration of congenital syphilis between 1971 and 1983 in the official statistics of the Paris region, congenital syphilis is nevertheless mentioned as sporadic cases. The authors report here five cases of precocious congenital syphilis collected from august 1981 to december 1982 by a department of antiveneral consultations in the Paris region.

[Intraoperative diagnosis of incipient stomach cancer].

A combination procedure of surgical fibrogastroscopy was employed for diagnosis of incipient gastric carcinoma. It involved a routine examination of the mucosa, transillumination (examination in transmitted light) and endoscopy of the illuminated surgically-exposed stomach, with the endoscope's ligh being switched off. The study conducted in 24 patients with incipient carcinoma showed the effectiveness of the said diagnostic procedure in identifying foci of such lesions, their anatomic pattern as well as the extent of involvement of different layers of the stomach wall, submucosal and serous muscular layer.

A combined scanning electron microscopy and immunofluorescence study demonstrating that the odontoblast process extends to the dentinoenamel junction in human teeth.

The extent of the odontoblast cell process has been the subject of controversy for many years. Using SEM we have examined the extent and morphology of the process on dentine surfaces of human teeth which were partially demineralized and collagenase digested. Third molars were extracted and split; the dentine surface was demineralized, digested by bacterial collagenase, fixed with glutaraldehyde, postfixed in osmium tetroxide, and prepared for SEM investigation.
