Molecular studies of animal regeneration typically focus on conserved genes and signaling pathways that underlie morphogenesis. To date, a holistic analysis of gene expression across animals has not been attempted, as it presents a suite of problems related to differences in experimental design and gene homology. By combining orthology analyses with a novel statistical method for testing gene enrichment across large data sets, we are able to test whether tissue regeneration across animals shares transcriptional regulation.

Host shifts to new plant species can drive speciation for plant-feeding insects, but how commonly do host shifts also drive diversification for the parasites of those same insects? Oak gall wasps induce galls on oak trees and shifts to novel tree hosts and new tree organs have been implicated as drivers of oak gall wasp speciation. Gall wasps are themselves attacked by many insect parasites, which must find their hosts on the correct tree species and organ, but also must navigate the morphologically variable galls with which they interact. Thus, we ask whether host shifts to new trees, organs, or gall morphologies correlate with gall parasite diversification.

In this study, 'Hass' avocado samples were stored at different temperatures to determine changes in firmness, color and other physicochemical support properties throughout the storage time and to represent shelf life depending on temperature from the evolution of these quality properties. From the experimental data, a set of models were adjusted to represent the change of each property as a function of time and temperature by using a first-order kinetics to represent the evolution of lightness (L*) and the chromatic coordinate b*, and a logistic equation to represent firmness and a*. Lately, the field of redox flow batteries is flourishing because of the emergence of new redox chemistries, including organic compounds, new electrolytes, and innovative designs. Animal eyes vary considerably in morphology and complexity and are thus ideal for understanding the evolution of complex biological traits [1]. While eyes evolved many times in bilaterian animals with elaborate nervous systems, image-forming and simpler eyes also exist in cnidarians, which are ancient non-bilaterians with neural nets and regions with condensed neurons to process information.
