Ectopic thyroid tissue is rare in the general population and more prevalent in people who have existing thyroid disease. Common anatomical sites of ectopic thyroid tissue include the lateral cervical region, thyroglossal duct, mediastinum, lingual, sublingual, and submandibular region. Intrathymic ectopic thyroid tissue is exceedingly rare.

Mucosal Schwann cell hamartoma (MSCH) is a rare benign neurogenic tumor characterized by pure S100p positive spindle cell proliferation. Most cases occur in the distal colon. Involvement of the gall bladder is exceedingly rare.

Metastasis to the kidney from other primary sites is extremely rare. Previous studies reported the lung as the most common primary site. Distant metastasis from the tongue to the kidney is exceedingly rare.

Malignant Mesothelioma is an uncommon tumor that usually presents with diffuse pleural involvement and carries a dismal prognosis. Rarely, however, it can present as a localized, circumscribed mass or focal pleural lesion without evidence of diffuse spread. We found four such cases in our database.

Background: Radiologic assessment of tumor size is an integral part of the work-up for breast carcinoma. With improved radiologic equipment, surgical decision relies profoundly upon radiologic/clinical stage. We wanted to see the concordance between radiologic and pathologic tumor size to infer how accurate radiologic/clinical staging is.

Background: There is contradictory evidence in literature with respect to diagnosis and management of follicular lesions of the thyroid gland. From surgical pathology stand point, pathologists require submission and processing of entire capsule for microscopic evaluation. This can be extremely challenging especially in larger lesions.

Tumours of uterine corpus are the most common gynaecological malignancies. The clinicopathological features of most of these tumours are well understood; however, dedifferentiated endometrial carcinoma still requires a lot of research to establish adequate management guidelines. The entity was first described in 2006 and is an aggressive tumour with poor prognosis.

As with other malignancies, lymph node metastasis is an important staging element and prognostic factor in colorectal carcinomas. The number of involved lymph nodes is directly related to decreased 5-year overall survival for all pT stages according to United States Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) cancer registry database. The National Quality Forum specifies that the presence of at least 12 lymph nodes in a surgical resection is one of the key quality measures for the evaluation of colorectal cancer.

Advancement in genetic and molecular biology techniques has greatly helped our understanding of various diseases, especially hematological disorders. We describe a case of primary myelofibrosis (PMF) that transformed into acute myeloid leukemia with a very rare and unusual genetic translocation of (1;21). There are only five reported cases of this translocation in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic syndrome but none of them transformed from PMF.

Background: To avoid diagnostic errors such as missed diagnosis and errors in staging tumors due to inadequate tissue sampling, pathologists submit additional sections (AS).

Objective: This study assessed frequency, diagnostic yield, distribution, and cost of AS.

Method: Among 1542 AS cases, we calculated mean AS per case; fraction of AS that altered diagnosis or stage; AS variation by tissue, malignant versus benign lesions, presence or absence of neoadjuvant therapy, mass, margin, lymph nodes, or other source, resident versus pathologist assistant (PA) dissector; and AS cost per case.

Pulmonary placental transmogrification (PT) is a rare entity with less than 40 cases reported in the literature. Most reported cases are associated with either bullous emphysema or with pulmonary fibrochondromatous hamartomas. We present only the second case of PT associated with adenocarcinoma of the lung.
