Cancer treatment with vascular disrupting agents (VDAs) causes rapid and extensive necrosis in solid tumors. However, these agents fall short in eliminating all malignant cells, ultimately leading to tumor regrowth. Here, we investigated whether the molecular changes in the tumor microenvironment induced by VDA treatment sensitize the tumors for secondary nanotherapy enhanced by clinical-stage tumor penetrating peptide iRGD.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAristolochic acids I and II (AA-I/II) are carcinogenic principles of Aristolochia plants, which have been employed in traditional medicinal practices and discovered as food contaminants. While the deleterious effects of AAs are broadly acknowledged, there is a dearth of information to define the mechanisms underlying their carcinogenicity. Following bioactivation in the liver, N-hydroxyaristolactam and N-sulfonyloxyaristolactam metabolites are transported via circulation and elicit carcinogenic effects by reacting with cellular DNA.

This study investigates the antiviral activity of emetine, dehydroemetine (DHE), and congeneric compounds against SARS-CoV-2 and HCoV-OC43, and evaluates their impact on the host cell. Concurrently, we assess the potential cardiotoxicity of these ipecac alkaloids.

They are a significant risk factor for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and RCC to a lesser extent.

Novel approaches are required to address the urgent need to develop lipid-based carriers of paclitaxel (PTX) and other hydrophobic drugs for cancer chemotherapy. Carriers based on cationic liposomes (CLs) with fluid (i.e.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAristolochic acids (AAs) are a group of naturally occurring compounds present in many plant species of the Aristolochiaceae family. Exposure to AA is a significant risk factor for severe nephropathy, and urological and hepatobiliary cancers (among others) that are often recurrent and characterized by the prominent mutational fingerprint of AA. However, herbal medicinal products that contain AA continue to be manufactured and marketed worldwide with inadequate regulation, and possible environmental exposure routes receive little attention.

Objective: To describe the features of diagnosis and surgical treatment of thoracic spine fracture in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis.
Material And Methods: We present a patient with ankylosing spondylitis, blunt thoracic spine trauma and Th10-Th11 fracture, spinal cord compression and contusion and moderate lower extremity paresis. Preoperative and postoperative CT and MRI (after 8 months) were performed for control of decompression.
The authors report a rare case of hemangioendothelioma of the right innominate vein complicated by superior vena cava syndrome. Considering development of enlarged venous collaterals, we performed circular resection of superior vena cava together with the right and left innominate veins without replacement. There were no postoperative complications.

The disease is characterized by the accumulation of tumoral B cells resulting from a defect of apoptosis. We have and preclinically validated a tumor-penetrating peptide (named TT1) coupled to an interfering peptide (IP) that dissociates the interaction between the serine/threonine protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) from its physiological inhibitor, the oncoprotein SET.

Here, we report the synthesis of a novel anthracycline, Utorubicin (UTO), and its preclinical development as an anticancer payload for nanocarriers. Free UTO was significantly more toxic to cultured tumor cell lines than the clinically used anthracycline, doxorubicin.

Background: Aristolochic acids (AA) and arsenic are chemical carcinogens associated with urothelial carcinogenesis. Here we investigate the combined effects of AA and arsenic toward the risk of developing upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC).
Methods: Hospital-based ( = 89) and population-based (2,921 cases and 11,684 controls) Taiwanese UTUC cohorts were used to investigate the association between exposure to AA and/or arsenic and the risk of developing UTUC.
A new class of convolutional codes, called skew convolutional codes, that extends the class of classical fixed convolutional codes, is proposed. Skew convolutional codes can be represented as periodic time-varying convolutional codes but have a description as compact as fixed convolutional codes. Designs of generator and parity check matrices, encoders, and code trellises for skew convolutional codes and their duals are shown.

Selective depletion or reprogramming of M2 TAMs may sensitize the nonresponsive tumors for immune-mediated eradication. However, precision delivery of payloads to M2 TAMs, while sparing healthy tissues, has remained an unresolved challenge.

The list of known human carcinogens has recently been extended by the addition of aristolochic acids (AAs). AAs occur primarily in Aristolochia herbs, which are used extensively in folk medicines, including Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Genotoxicity of AAs is associated with the formation of active species catalyzed by metabolic enzymes, the full repertoire of which is unknown. Recently, we provided evidence that sulfonation is important for bioactivation of AAs.

Base excision repair (BER), a process of critical importance for maintaining genome stability against a plethora of DNA-damaging factors, involves several enzymes, including DNA glycosylases, AP endonucleases, DNA polymerases, DNA ligases and accessory proteins acting sequentially on the same damaged site in DNA. Rather than being assembled into one stable multisubunit complex, these enzymes pass the repair intermediates between them in a highly coordinated manner.

The multi-compartment protein p32 is overexpressed and present at cell surfaces in a variety of tumors, including TNBC, specifically in the malignant cells and endothelial cells, and in macrophages localized in hypoxic areas of the tumor. Herein we used polyethylene glycol-polycaprolactone polymersomes that were affinity targeted with the p32-binding tumor penetrating peptide LinTT1 (AKRGARSTA) for imaging of TNBC lesions.

It is shown that the provision of specialized psychiatric and psychotherapeutic assistance to pensioners of internal Affairs of the Russian Federation is carried out mainly in the municipal health care system, there is no monitoring of the mental state of pensioners of internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, including combatants with post-stress disorders. Within the framework of the project Of the concept of development of the psychiatric service of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia, it is proposed to systematize approaches to the organization of psychiatric care for pensioners of the Ministry of internal Affairs of the Russian Federation with mental disorders in the structure of departmental health care, with the improvement of the regulatory legal framework for the organization of psychiatric care, which will ensure the provision of high-quality psychiatric care.
