Derivatives of methionine sulfoximine (MSO) and phosphinothrycin (PPT), which are analogues of glutamate, exhibit selective herbicidal activity. This effect is accounted for by impairments of nitrogen metabolism, resulting from inhibition of its key enzyme in plants, glutamine synthetase (EC 6.3.

[Structure and functions of chaperones and chaperonins (Review)].

Folding and assembling of newly synthesized proteins is directed and effected by a group of relatively recently discovered proteins called molecular chaperones. These proteins not only control the assembling of native structures; they also remodel protein molecules that have wrong conformations. All molecular chaperones perform the same function, but structurally they are divided into groups of chaperones and chaperonins.

[The interaction of pathogenic microorganisms with the sorbent polymethylsiloxane].

The method of electron microscopy has been used to study adhesion of the microbic cells of standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and fungi of genus Candida on the organosilicon sorbent polymethylsiloxane (PMS) and medicamentous complex containing it. This complex contains furazolidone and metronidazole immobilized on silver ions-modified PMS. It is shown that the adhesion of microorganisms is accompanied by their destruction whose rate on pure PMS and medicamentous complex is different.

[The morphologic basis for the use of immobilized drug preparations in therapeutic oral medicine].

The response of connective tissue on drugs with different action spectra (gentamycin, furazolidon, mefenamin sodium) immobilized on the poliurethane basis was studied experimentally. Immobilized forms of the drugs created favorable conditions for faster wound cicatrization.

[The use of mathematical modelling and prediction for assessing the efficacy of the treatment of periodontitis].

The statistical prediction and mathematical modelling techniques were applied to the analysis of the results of treatment of periodontitis. The afflicted focus cross-sectional area (as measured by X-ray film) was taken as a variable. A total of 40 patients were divided into 2 groups.

The mm. tibialis anterior, soleus and gastrocnemius have been studied electron microscopically in mature and old rats. In the skeletal muscle tissue of the old rats there are present unchanged, atrophied, degeneratively changed and hypertrophic muscle fibers.
