This paper presents a portable platform to collect and review behavioral data simultaneously with neurophysiological signals. The whole system is comprised of four parts: a sensor data acquisition interface, a socket server for real-time data streaming, a Simulink system for real-time processing and an offline data review and analysis toolbox. A low-cost microcontroller is used to acquire data from external sensors such as accelerometer and hand dynamometer.

Management of Incompletely Excised Skin Tumors: Our Experience.

Background: Current British Association of Dermatologists guidelines recommend that Mohs micrographic surgery should be considered for incompletely excised basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas. Units that perform Mohs surgery are limited. In Teesside, the skin cancer multidisciplinary team discusses all incompletely excised skin tumors, considers all treatment options, provides recommendations, and initiates the agreed management plan.

Cytomegalovirus infection in pregnant women and its association with bad obstetric outcomes in Northern India.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection during pregnancy is far more complex than other infections, due to ability of the virus to be frequently reactivated during the child bearing age and may vertically transmitted to the developing fetus in spite of maternal immunity. Therefore, in the current study we determined the prevalence of CMV infection in pregnant women and tried to identify the role of maternal CMV infection in adverse pregnancy outcomes in Northern India. In this case-control study, 517 pregnant women, out of them 200 in case group and 317 in the control group.

High Resolution NMR Spectroscopy as a Structural and Analytical Tool for Unsaturated Lipids in Solution.

Mono- and polyunsaturated lipids are widely distributed in Nature, and are structurally and functionally a diverse class of molecules with a variety of physicochemical, biological, medicinal and nutritional properties. High resolution NMR spectroscopic techniques including 1H-, 13C- and 31P-NMR have been successfully employed as a structural and analytical tool for unsaturated lipids. The objective of this review article is to provide: (i) an overview of the critical 1H-, 13C- and 31P-NMR parameters for structural and analytical investigations; (ii) an overview of various 1D and 2D NMR techniques that have been used for resonance assignments; (iii) selected analytical and structural studies with emphasis in the identification of major and minor unsaturated fatty acids in complex lipid extracts without the need for the isolation of the individual components; (iv) selected investigations of oxidation products of lipids; (v) applications in the emerging field of lipidomics; (vi) studies of protein-lipid interactions at a molecular level; (vii) practical considerations and (viii) an overview of future developments in the field.

Frequency of acute bacterial meningitis in children with first episode of febrile seizures.

Objective: To determine the frequency of acute bacterial meningitis in children with first episode of febrile seizures.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Polyclinic, Postgraduate Medical Institute, Islamabad, Pakistan, from December 2012 to August 2013, and comprised patients with first episode of fever and seizure. SPSS 10 was used for data analysis.

Acute Pancreatitis Secondary to Severe Hypertriglyceridemia: Management of Severe Hypertriglyceridemia in Emergency Setting.

Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is the third most common cause of acute pancreatitis (AP). The incidence of AP is around 10-20% with levels > 2,000 mg/dL. We present here a case of a 44-year-old male with history of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and HTG admitted with severe abdominal pain.

Non-Atherosclerotic Obliteration Of Bilateral Supraclinoid Internal Carotid Arteries; A Classic Case Of Moyamoya Disease.

Moyamoya disease is an idiopathic progressive vasculopathy of distal internal carotid artery and circle of Willis which leads to the development of characteristic smoky appearance of the vascular collateral network on angiography. With the highest reported incidence among Japanese population, it has been under recognized as a cause of cerebrovascular accidents in Western countries. Here we report a case of a young 20-year-old Caucasian woman who presented to the emergency department with expressive aphasia, right arm weakness and numbness for three days.

New 4'-substituted benzoyl--D glycoside from the fruit pulp of with antiplatelet and antioxidant potency.

Background: The fruit is a rich source of vitamins, acids, and nutraceuticals which have free radical scavenging activity. Thus, the ethanolic extract of fruit and its isolated compound (Tb-01) were intended to estimate antiplatelet and antioxidant activities.

Methods: The ethanolic extract was submitted to Si-gel CC and the compound was isolated.

Primary atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor in the adult spine.

Background: Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (ATRT) is a highly aggressive tumor of the central nervous system (WHO grade IV), which is most frequently found intracranially in young children and infants. Only three prior cases of primary ATRT involving the adult spine were found following a literature review, and the average survival for these patients was only 20 postoperative months.

Comparison of 19 Strains in Genomics, Phylogenetics, Phylogenomics and Functional Genomics.

Currently, genome sequences of a total of 19 strains are available, including eight completed genomes (strains W83, ATCC 33277, TDC60, HG66, A7436, AJW4, 381, and A7A1-28) and 11 high-coverage draft sequences (JCVI SC001, F0185, F0566, F0568, F0569, F0570, SJD2, W4087, W50, Ando, and MP4-504) that are assembled into fewer than 300 contigs. The objective was to compare these genomes at both nucleotide and protein sequence levels in order to understand their phylogenetic and functional relatedness. Four copies of gene sequences were identified in each of the eight complete genomes and one in the other 11 unfinished genomes.

International travel is a risk factor for extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae acquisition in children: A case-case-control study in an urban U.S. hospital.

Background: Extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL) infections are increasing in both adults and children. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology of children with ESBL in an ethnically-diverse population, to determine what proportion of these infections were community-onset, and to identify risk factors predisposing children to ESBL acquisition.

Aromatic -aldehydes have been used as building blocks in the synthesis of polyazomethines (a class of conjugated Schiff bases) and their physicochemical properties have been studied. Six dialdehydes have been synthesized, , via etherification reaction between aromatic diols () and 4-fluorobenzaldehyde () (see Scheme 1), and then polymerized with 1,4-phenylenediamine () and 4,4'-oxydianiline () (see Scheme 2). The chemical structures of the -aldehydes were elucidated by FTIR, H NMR and C NMR spectroscopic studies, elemental analysis and single crystal whereas the polymers were studied by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy.

Upregulation of long noncoding RNA MIAT in aggressive form of chronic lymphocytic leukemias.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are non-proten-coding transcripts of more than 200 nucleotides generated by RNA polymerase II and their expressions are tightly regulated in cell type specific- and/or cellular differential stage specific- manner. MIAT, originally isolated as a candidate gene for myocardial infarction, encodes lncRNA (termed MIAT). Here, we determined the expression level of MIAT in established leukemia/lymphoma cell lines and found its upregulation in lymphoid but not in myeloid cell lineage with mature B cell phenotype.

Multi-disciplinary management of complex pressure sore reconstruction: 5-year review of experience in a spinal injuries centre.

INTRODUCTION In our regional spinal injuries unit, complex pressure ulcer reconstruction is facilitated by a monthly multidisciplinary team clinic. This study reviews a series of the more complex of these patients who underwent surgery as a joint case between plastics and other surgical specialties, aiming to provide descriptive data as well as share the experience of treating these complex wounds. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients operated on as a joint case from 2010 to 2014 were identified through a locally held database and hospital records were then retrospectively reviewed for perioperative variables.
