[The CO2 laser in the surgical treatment of suppurative processes in the lungs].

Operations were carried out on 58 patients with suppurative processes in the lungs. The authors worked out a method of thoracotomy by means of a laser with layer-by-layer division of the muscles during compression with special clamps, as well as a method of economical resection consisting in cutting the pulmonary tissue with a laser scalpel, electrocoagulation of small vessels, and stitching through the large vessels and bronchi with a suturing instrument. The use of a CO2 laser in operations for suppurative processes in the lungs makes it possible to conduct economical operations and reduce the number of complications.

[Hemosorption in the treatment of patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans of the lower extremities].

Hemosorption results were assessed in 99 patients with obliterating arterial atherosclerosis of the lower extremities. It is demonstrated that extracorporeal systemic detoxication, using different sorbents, is an effective method for improving collateral flow in patients with atherosclerotic occlusions of lower-limb arteries, whose insufficiency of blood transfer pathways is largely functional, and the control of disturbed homeostasis, particularly lipid metabolism and blood rheologic properties.

[Clinical aspects, diagnosis and possibilities of the surgical treatment of aortic aneurysm].

On the basis of examining 42 patients, the possibilities of the timely diagnosis and surgical treatment of aortic aneurysms are discussed. The importance of the X-ray examination in the diagnosis of aneurysms of the abdominal and thoracic portions of the aorta is emphasized. Special equipment is necessary for the operative treatment of thoracic aorta aneurysms.

[Late results of the radical correction of Ebstein's anomaly].

The results of a follow-up of 35 patients (including 18 children and adolescents) for periods of 6 months to 11 years after radical correction of Ebstein's anomaly are analysed. The results were good in 25 patients, satisfactory--in 6 and poor--in one patient; 3 patients died. The result was poor in one of the patients because the thin walled arterialized part of the right ventricle was not plicated.
