Background: Natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) is currently widely used in left-sided colorectal cancer. Some clinical comparative studies have been conducted, providing evidence of its safety and oncological benefits. However, these studies are typically characterized by small sample sizes and short postoperative follow-up periods.

Background: The role of laparoscopic-assisted natural orifice specimen extraction (LA-NOSE) colectomy in the treatment of left-sided colon cancer has not been well defined, and there remains confusion about how to conveniently exteriorize specimens through natural orifices. Therefore, we introduced a homemade invention, the Cai tube, to facilitate the extraction of specimens and compared the clinical outcomes of LA-NOSE with conventional laparoscopic (CL) colectomy for left-sided colon cancer.

Methods: From March 2015 to August 2017, patients with left-sided colon cancer were randomly divided into LA-NOSE and CL groups.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the serious malignant diseases, accounting for several cases globally. The prevention, discovery and cure of GC depend on its molecular mechanism. In recent decades, it has been increasingly recognized that the long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been involved in GC progression.

Background: Complete mesocolic excision (CME) with central vascular ligation (CVL) was proposed by Hohenberger in 2009. The CME principle has gradually become the technical standard for colon cancer surgery. How to achieve CME with CVL in laparoscopic right hemicolectomy (LRH) is controversial, and a unified standard approach is not yet available.

Objective: To investigate the feasibility and safety of membrane-based right-sided approach of laparoscopic suprapancreatic lymph node dissection for advanced distal gastric cancer.

Methods: The clinical data of 41 patients with advanced distal gastric cancer who underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy using membrane-based right-sided approach for laparoscopic suprapancreatic lymph node dissection at the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Zhongshan Hospital of Xiamen University from January 2016 to January 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 24 males and 17 females with a mean age of 56.

GATA4 is a zinc finger DNA-binding protein that plays an important role in mammalian liver development. However, the effects of GATA4 in hepatoblastoma (HB), a common liver cancer in pediatric patients, remain largely unknown. In this study, we demonstrate that GATA4 promotes growth and survival in the Huh6 human hepatoblastoma cell line.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of laparoscopic-assisted natural orifice specimen extraction radical left colectomy.

Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on clinicopathological dada of 15 colorectal patients who were treated by laparoscopic-assisted anal specimen extraction radical left colectomy with self-developed surgical instrument Cai tube between January and September in 2014. Tumor location included descending colon (n=3), the junction of descending colon and sigmoid colon (n=2), the sigmoid colon (n=6) and upper rectum (n=4).

Objective: To investigate the expression of ASK1 and PRKCD in the process of monocyte differentiation, and explore their role in functional changes of hypersplenism spleen macrophages (Mφ) in portal hypertension (PH).

Methods: U937 cells were stimulated to differentiate into monocyte/macrophage-like cells by cultivation in PMA and the mRNA expressions of ASK1 and PRKCD were detected by q-PCR and the changes of protein expression were identified by western blot analysis. The secretion of phagocytose related cytokines such as IL-10 and TNF-α were tested by ELISA, and the function of the macrophage-like cells were studied by chicken red blood cell phagocytose test.

Objective: To investigate the expressions of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and the BH3-only subgroup of Bcl-2 related proteins (Bim) in multidrug-resistant hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and their association with drug resistance in the cells.

Methods: The multdrug-resistant HepG-2 cell line was established by treatment with gradually increasing doses of ADM. CCK-8 assay was used to determine the drug sensitivity of the cells, and the expressions of MRP-1, P-gp, ERK1, ERK2, ERK5, and Bim were detected with Western blot.

Background: Decoy receptor 3 (DcR3), a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily, is associated with anti-tumor immunity suppression. It is highly expressed in many tumors, and its expression can be regulated by the MAPK/MEK/ERK signaling pathway. The MAPK/MEK/ERK pathway has been reported to be a regulator in tumor occurrence, development and clonal expansion.

Objective: To evaluate the surgical outcomes after transumbilical single-port access laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer.

Methods: Patients undergoing transumbilical single-port access laparoscopic radical resection for colorectal cancer at the Zhongshan Hospital of Xiamen University were included.

Results: Three patients underwent transumbilical single-port access laparoscopic radical resection for sigmoid colon cancer and 1 for rectal cancer between August 2010 and September 2010.

Background: Multidrug resistance (MDR) is extremely common in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is a major problem in cancer eradication by limiting the efficacy of chemotherapy. Modulation of c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) activation could be a new method to reverse MDR. However, the relationship between JNK activity and MDR in HCC cells is unknown.
