Moderate preoxidation is feasible for odor-producing algae treatments, usually requiring trade-offs in algal removal and integrity maintenance. However, dosing oxidants may cause internal oxidative homeostasis imbalances and secondary odorous metabolite responses, adding new trade-offs for moderate treatments. Peracetic acid (PAA)/Fe processes are promising strategies in moderate treatments and thus were applied to examine how to achieve the following three trade-offs: good algal removal, no odorant increases and no releases.

Apoptosis of alveolar macrophages (AMs) induced by silica is one of the crucial driving factors of silicosis inflammation and fibrosis. However, the mechanism of silica-induced AMs apoptosis remains unclear. In this study, transcriptome sequencing identified 11 differentially expressed (DE)-mRNAs enriched in the regulation of apoptotic signaling pathways in AMs treated with 250 μg/mL silica for 24 h, of which tripartite motif-containing 32 (Trim32) was the most significant and down-regulated.

In contrast to homogeneous enzyme catalysis, nanozymes are nanosized heterogeneous catalysts that perform reactions on a rigid surface. This fundamental difference between enzymes and nanozymes is often overlooked in kinetic studies and practical applications. In this article, using 14 nanozymes of various compositions (core@shell, metal-organic frameworks, metal, and metal oxide nanoparticles), we systematically demonstrate that nontypical features of nanozymes, such as multiple catalytic activities, chemical transformations, and aggregation, need to be considered in nanozyme catalysis.

As the most widely used immunoassay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) relies on perishable enzymes and usually provides poor sensitivity and stability, limiting its application in detecting trace analytes in harsh environments. Herein, a new ratiometric fluorescence (RF) sensing platform enhanced by a nanozyme-enzyme cascade reaction composed of MnO nanosheets (MnO NSs) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was proposed.
