Co-contamination by heavy metal and organic pollutant may negatively influence plant performance, and increasing the number of genotypes for a plant population may reduce this negative effect. To test this hypothesis, we constructed experimental populations of consisting of single, four or eight genotypes in soils contaminated by cadmium, cypermethrin or both. Biomass, leaf area and stem internode length of were significantly lower in the soil contaminated by cypermethrin and by both cadmium and cypermethrin than in the soil contaminated by cadmium only.

Connected ramets of aquatic clonal plants are susceptible to fragmentation by disturbance. Such clonal fragmentation may interact with nutrient availability and individual density to affect growth and morphology of aquatic clonal plants. We grew the widespread floating clonal plant (duckweed) under three levels of population density (low, medium, or high), two levels of nutrient availability (low or high), and two levels of clonal fragmentation (with or without).
