: Hallux valgus is a prevalent foot deformity conventionally treated with open surgical techniques, which carry risk of complications due to extensive soft tissue dissection. Minimally invasive surgeries (MISs) as alternatives offer comparable outcomes, reduced pain, and faster recovery; however, their challenges include the risk of shortening of the first metatarsal. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of our modified MIS hallux valgus correction technique and investigate the factors that affect first metatarsal shortening.

Recent studies have expanded our understanding of CEMIP (KIAA1199, HYBID), revealing its involvement in cancer metastasis and its potential role in slowing cancer progression. CEMIP plays critical roles in several stages of cancer metastasis: First, CEMIP promotes cancer cell proliferation to maintain cell heterogeneity before the metastasis process.

Background: Non-surgical method is a treatment option for mandibular condylar fracture; however, it is questionable whether bone fragments are adequately reduced and remodeled. The purpose of this study was to identify three-dimensional positional changes in the mandibular condyles in patients treated non-surgically, analyze factors influencing the extent of positional changes, and evaluate clinical prognosis.
Methods: This retrospective study included 31 patients with unilateral mandibular condylar fractures treated non-surgically at the Ajou University Dental Hospital between 2005 and 2023.
Recent studies report excellent local control (LC) and favorable toxicities of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for pulmonary metastasis (PM) from sarcoma. This study compared the LC and survival of SABR and metastasectomy for sarcoma PM. We analyzed the LC rates of 54 PMs treated with SABR between 2008 and 2022.

Objectives: This study aimed to propose guidelines for the indications of non-extraction, extraction camouflage treatment, and orthognathic surgery by comparing the degree of soft tissue improvement effects. This comparison focused on changes in CKHA, a soft tissue indicator corresponding to the major hard tissue indicator, ANB.
Materials And Methods: Sixty-six patients, 25 males and 41 females, aged between 18 and 50 years and diagnosed with skeletal Class III malocclusion (ANB < 0°), were enrolled in the study.
Background: The female parental line Jinbuol (JBO, early heading) and two recombinant isogenic lines, JSRIL1 and JSRIL2, have been shown to flower 44, 34 and 16 days earlier, respectively, than the male parental line Samgwang (SG, late heading) in paddy fields.
Objective: To explore how photoperiodicity-related genes are involved in differential heading among these lines.
Methods: Deep sequencing was conducted for these lines, photoperiodicity-related genes (71) were categorized, and qRT-PCR was performed for some key genes.
Background: There are few studies that have examined clinical and radiological outcomes at 5 years after isolated medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction. To date, midterm outcomes after isolated double-bundle (DB) MPFL reconstruction are not well known.
Hypothesis: Isolated DB MPFL reconstruction using a patellar suture anchor technique would lead to improved functional scores and radiological findings, and these improvements would remain stable over the 5-year postoperative period.

Purpose: Although there is a growing role for local therapy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and pulmonary oligometastasis, it remains unclear whether metastatectomy or stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is the more effective treatment for these patients. We aimed to compare the oncologic outcomes of metastasectomy and SBRT for HCC with pulmonary oligometastasis.
Methods And Materials: We retrospectively analyzed 209 patients with HCC with 322 metastatic lung lesions who underwent either metastasectomy (150 patients with 241 lesions) or SBRT (59 patients with 81 lesions) between January 2008 and December 2018.
Discovery and verification of diagnostic or therapeutic biomarkers for biliary tract cancer (BTC) is challenging owing to the low prevalence of the disease. Here, we identified and investigated the clinical impact of a fusion gene, Pumilio1-tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 3 (PUM1-TRAF3), caused by 1;14 chromosomal translocation in BTC. PUM1-TRAF3 was initially identified in the RNA-sequencing of five BTC surgical tissues and confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization.

The myeloblastosis (MYB) transcription factor (TF) family is one of the largest TF families and is involved in metabolism, lignin biosynthesis, and developmental processes. Here, we showed that OsMYB14, a rice R2R3-MYB TF, was expressed in leaves and roots, especially in rice culm and panicles, and that it localized to the nucleus.

It also investigated associations between these cytokines and cartilage markers, as well as their connections with synovial fluid (SF) markers.
Methods: Samples of plasma, urine, and SF were obtained from patients (n = 40) undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) or unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) due to severe knee OA.
Biliary tract cancers (BTCs), including intrahepatic, perihilar, and distal cholangiocarcinomas, as well as gallbladder cancer, are a diverse group of cancers that exhibit unique molecular characteristics in each of their anatomic and pathological subtypes. The pathological classification of BTCs compromises distinct growth patterns, including mass forming, periductal infiltrating, and intraductal growing types, which can be identified through gross examination. The small-duct and large-duct types of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma have been recently introduced into the WHO classification.

This study addresses the critical interface between stainless steel (SUS) and polyamide 66 (PA66), focusing on the pivotal role of surface treatments and various silane coupling agents in enhancing the adhesion strength of heterojunction SUS/PA66 bilayer composites. Through systematic surface modifications-highlighted by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and contact angle analyses-the study assessed the impact of increasing the surface area, roughness, and energy of SUS.

Methods: We retrospectively recruited 308 patients with lung cancer with RT-related changes observed on F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (F-FDG PET/CT) performed after RT. Patients were labelled as positive or negative for tumour recurrence through histologic diagnosis or clinical follow-up after F-FDG PET/CT.
Purpose: We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of HL301, a standardized combination product of 7 medicinal plants, in radiation pneumonitis in patients with unresectable non-small cell lung cancer undergoing curative concurrent chemoradiotherapy.
Methods And Materials: The target accrual was 87 and a total of 63 patients were enrolled due to poor accrual rate. We randomly assigned the 63 patients to receive a placebo (arm A), or 1200 mg HL301 (arm B), or 1800 mg HL301 (arm C).
Background: Biliary tract cancer (BTC) is a relatively rare but aggressive gastrointestinal cancer with a high mortality rate. Cancer stem cell (CSC) populations play crucial roles in tumor biology and are responsible for the low response to anti-cancer treatment and the high recurrence rate. This study investigated the role of Transgelin-2 (TAGLN2), overexpressed in CSC in BTC cells, and analyzed its expression in patient tissues and serum to identify potential new targets for BTC.
